The Pete Pawsey Trio Gained A Brother As We Mourned The Loss of a Brown Pelican Brother
I advertised that Pete Pawsey was going to be in town on Saturday with his trio when we last met, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that he brought a trio of players along, plus himself. Charles Cleaver played the keys, Eric Pittman laid down the bass, Patrick Edwards was behind the kit and Pete Pawsey played the six strings and gave up the vocals.
I love this cat because it is always original and always groovy. He is a masterful player that pushes his boundaries and explores the diversity of music. Based in the triangle area, get to know Pawsey on Facebook and keep it here to find out when he will be back in our area.
Saturday night was a bittersweet night at the Dirty Bird, where friends and loved ones of a bartender and friend to all who knew him( Chris Rowe) gathered in remembrance . Sadly we said farewell to Rowe whose life ended suddenly on Friday, July 26, 2019. Donations were collected to help his family with his final expenses, while his life and memory were celebrate with those that came together!

The Will and Tony Show Visit New Bern
My friends Will Baker and Tony Johnston are a talented duo from the Crystal Coast, that love sharing songs and swapping beats with fans and friends that love classic rock and bluesy grooves. The Will and Tony Show was in our neck of the woods on Saturday night and as you can see in the video below, they were the boys giving me the beats as I got lost in the rock and roll. They stay busy playing music with each other as a duo and often they get together as a band under the banner of Big Drink Music Company.
The boys will be rocking the duo gig this coming Thursday at Bake Bottle & Brew in Swansboro, NC. Music is offered from 6-9 pm. The following week Big Drink will be in the backyard of The Trading Post: Southern Food and Spirits, sharing songs from 6-9 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

New Garage Band Breaks Ground at The Garage
Housterino is a rocking new trio based in New Bern, that debuted their music for the public on Saturday night at The Garage. They hosted the night with the Raleigh based Thick Modine. This provided the people of James City a fun night of original rocking grooves via two high energy bands. Some songs were heavy, some punk-infused and some outright rocking! All in the backyard of the Garage.
On a side note, I will mention, Joe Brown and Jacob Burke worked out the production needs for the night and it sounded great.
Housterino is the latest and greatest band project with Justin Hargett at the helm on vocals. Dallas Allen on the drums and Jacob Whitford standing tall behind the bass. This trio is rocking and fun, loud and lovely! There is no word yet on their next show, but this was after all as the birth of a new baby. I really love how they sound like they were created in a garage and debuted at The Garage. Well played fellas and a good job too!

Jamison Ross (Snarky Puppy) w/ Eric Hirsh at The Pour House
Jamison Ross is a vocalist and drummer that delivers messages of humanity through the medium of jazz.
A native of Jacksonville, FL, Jamison’s passion for music was realized while growing up in his grandfather’s church, where he realized the effectiveness of music. Jamison began his study of jazz as a high school student at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and gained worldwide acclaim as a featured musician in the Tribeca Film Festival winning documentary CHOPS; a film that followed the school’s jazz ensemble as they prepare and perform in the renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Festival competition.
Ross continued his study of the genre at Florida State University (B.A., Jazz Studies), where he met his current band members and at University of New Orleans (M.M., Jazz), in the city where he currently resides. In 2012, Ross’ career began to take shape after winning the Thelonious Monk Jr. International Jazz Competition for his drumming. This achievement afforded him a recording contract with Concord Jazz. Jamison recounts, “at the time, people knew me as a drummer; they didn’t know I could sing. I wanted to merge my gifts.” “
Eric Hirsh
“Pianist and composer Eric Hirsh can play pretty much anything you throw at him. When he’s not leading his jazz quartet…he’s helping drive the progressive hip-hop of The Beast or the salsa shake of Orquesta GarDel. His original compositions have a propulsive thrust that combines a minimalist drive with the complex, expressive melodies. He’s one of the area’s best.” – Independent WeeklyDoors open at 7:30 PM, show starts at 8:30 PM and tickets are available at: Eventbrite

The Pour House Music Hall
The Aristocrats (Guthrie Govan, Bryan Beller and Marco Minnemann) have released critically acclaimed albums, toured the world, and established themselves as one of the most musically original, refreshingly irreverent, and astoundingly entertaining instrumental rock-fusion acts on the planet. Call them a virtuoso super-group if you must, but their musical high-wire act – employing random amounts of rock, jazz, pop, metal, and even traditional country – is informed by the spirit of a true band, one whose improvisational soul allows for anything to happen onstage at any moment…including the occasional wink and nod at the audience.
The Aristocrats are touring to promote their most ambitious and exploratory studio album yet, entitled You Know What…?, and will be supported by fellow rock-fusioners, Travis Larson Band.
With seven studio albums and three full-length performance DVDs, the award-winning Travis Larson Band is firmly rooted as one of instrumental music’s premiere acts, having worked on record with Steve Lukather (Toto), Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck), Dave LaRue (Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Dixie Dregs), Vinx (Sting, Herbie Hancock).
Years of ambitious touring and shared live billing with notables such as Ted Nugent, UFO, Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs), The Aristocrats, has established the band’s reputation for live performances that masterfully deliver full throttle rock-fusion.
The Aristocrats tickets are $25 still today but they are $30 after midnight. to get tickets for this show be sure to visit Eventbrite.
