One Small Town Big On Talent

Though we live in a small town, this place is big on talent!

On The Scene with Tracey Stones

Picking up where we left off, Big Jim returned to the midweek jam blues this Wednesday at The City Stage. The night was shared with a Girls Night Out event, which I learned is like a traveling marketplace for small businesses to network and share products.

Next week the band and the jam returns on Wednesday without any further interruptions for two weeks, or until mid-February. That is when the DEFAS offers a second show for their 2019 music season. Sam Gleaves will entertain on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. That show is free with donations encouraged for the touring artist. Music plays 7-8:30 pm.

For fans of Big Jim Kohler Blues Band, you are invited to check out his new site at Feel free to subscribe by sharing your email and we will send updates. For fans needing a fix, the band is heading to the coast tonight to take the stage at Cru Bar and Wine Store/Beaufort Coffee Shop. Music plays at 8:30 pm. More details on the gig below.

Marron Chaplin is back in the area after several weeks of running the roads from New Bern to Nashville and from Nashville to New York. Now back in the city of Bears, the rocker was spotted last night offering many rocking favorites to fans and friends that gathered at BrUtopia in James City last night.

Speaking of rocking stringers with big voices and mad crazy noodling skills, Adam Hill was in town and spent the evening sharing his songs with a new crowd of fans that enjoyed the show.

Hill rocked the stage at The Bruin Craft Beer and Wine Store on Middle Street. He offered many of my favorite from his own catalog. I love bringing him to places where he can freely play those originals that penetrate souls and rock hearts like crazy.

Adam Hill will be joined by drummer, Cecil Pittman, Jr., and bass man, Gordy Gorge this evening, as the trio best known as The Adam Hill Band heads to Surf City to rock souls along the coast. More details on that gig are in the line up below!

The Dirty Bird Brings Originality

The trio of stringers and singers from the Crystal Coast known as Now or Never features the talents of Steve Mehan, Tiffany Elaine, and Fernando Rivera.

This trio of close friends came together as a result of many open mic nights. They each bring a cool vibe to the table with Mehan being the classic rock influence, Elaine offering the country flavors and Rivera giving the pop and rap grooves make for a cool and original sound.

Tonight you can find the trio of players at The Carolina Wine Mixer where they will be sharing songs from 7-10 pm. Following the close of the weekend, they will be back at it, supporting the local music scene by hosting and supporting open mic nights. On Monday they will share songs with friends at Shortway Brewing Company, 230 Chatham Rd, Newport, NC from 6-9 pm and all are welcome to participate. On Tuesday you can find them at Cru Bar and Wine Store, 120 Turner St., Beaufort, NC; with the stage opening at 8 pm and music playing until 11 pm.

Dale Brings Music For The People

The final show that I caught last night was Joe Brown and The Band who performed on the deck at Blackbeard’s Triple Play Restaurant last night. When I got there last night, the crow was grooving the the great music being offered by Brown and his boys.

Fresh In From Memphis

Word was announced late last night that blues stringer Jon Shain has made it to the final competition in Memphis this weekend. Shain is there representing The Triangle Blues Society, which held a competition to select the band and artists that would represent them. Shain was a shoo-in for the winning, as his songs bring you into his world as he sheds and shares stories from his soul. Let’s all keep him in our thoughts as he advances tonight to the final round!
