Hurricane Help Finally Arrives in Fairfield Harbour
On Saturday, November 24, 2018 Pros organized a volunteer effort and brought 25 people from Charlotte to help move the debris littering the properties in Fairfield Harbour.
Since Fairfield Harbour is my home and I lost most of my clientele from that neighborhood, I got involved by passing out invitations to dinner and talking to folks around the community. At 4 pm I headed down to The Tri-Community Firehouse on Saint Delights Church Rd, where I served dinner to the community and volunteers. As one might expect, I invited Tommy Duzan, Sr. to come out to entertain the folks that showed up. He not only came to do that but he brought his father Charlie Duzan, who I have been waiting to hear for many moons.
Tommy started things off with a great selection of classic rock, his father came front and center with some original works and the finished thier jamming songs together. It was a delightful Thanksgiving feast, cooked with love by volunteers from our community. Not pictured was the food organizer, Kathleen Kohler.
Last weekend was the start of what Metro Real Estate Pros hopes to make a trend until all of the hurricane trash is removed in Fairfield Harbour. All are welcome to join them in the mission. We need volunteers every Saturday throughout the rest of the year to complete the mission of trash removal.
PLEASE!!! Get Involved!
There are many ways you can get involved, to find out more reach out to the local contractor and pastor Jay Gaskins by calling 252-671-2566. They will gather each Saturday from 9 am until 4 pm. Please bring the family for a day of service if it is something you can do. All kids over 13 are welcome to participate in this mission that will lift the spirits of people throughout my community.

Singers and Stringers Unite in Potters Hill
Outside on the deck, under the tent at Blackbeard’s Triple Play on Saturday night was, the local super band, The Potters Hill Band. With players from three popular area bands merging talents to make up the lineup. Potters Hill Band offers plenty of southern comfort with their southern rock offerings. They are a fairly unrehearsed band that got together as a result of The Adam Hill Band going on tour with Second Helping this past summer. From those bands, we meet Adam Hill on lead guitar, from the Adam Hill Band. Then from SH we have Chris McCallister on second lead guitar, Jonathon Riggs on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Joey Gillette behind the kit on drums and backing singers Laura McCallister and Fleeta Griffith. Add to that a bass man from the Side Track Band, Rick Ellisand we have a local supergroup rocking the scene.
For fans of Adam Hill and his band, they will be rocking in Wilmington tonight. Be sure to check them out at Bourbon St. with music being offered from 9 pm until the midnight hour. For more news on the Potters Hill Band, which got their name from where they rehearse, keep it here and I will share the news.

It Was A Family Affair at City Stage with Joe Brown & The Band
It was a great night of entertainment at The City Stage last Saturday night. Besides the amazing sounds of Joe Brown and The Band, the evening included some comedy in between the music sets and a couple of special guests throughout the night sharing the stage on vocals.
I was in the house long enough to catch the end of the first set, the comedic relief of 2 Cups, aka local funnyman Johnnie Smith along the opening of the second set. After a few songs with the band, Joe Brown welcome Alisa Mike to the stage to offer a few selections. This was wonderful. To hear this beautiful voice backed by a stellar band…oh yes! More of that, please!
Mike is a powerhouse with her vocal talents and she offers her show weekly at the City Stage. If you have not seen her there, be sure to come out any Thursday night and enjoy her show from 7-9 pm. Tomorrow night the gracious singer will be entertaining the folks in Fairfield Harbour. The community group “Fairfield Live” will host the singer for a dinner event for the community tomorrow night. The time is 7-10 pm and place is at the community center on Broad Creek Road. Tickets are $10 and the money raised pays the entertainment.
If you live in Fairfield Harbour or have good friends that do, be sure to come out and show your support for the music efforts being made to entertain the community.

Then There Was Transition of Rock To Blues at The Brown Pelican
It was a double bill of serious stringers at the Dirty Bird last Saturday, with rocker Marron Chaplin opening the night with a long set of rocking songs to welcome the crowd.
Following her performance on Saturday, the singer used a good portion of the week prepping for her trip to Nashville. She arrived there yesterday to start work on charting the course with her manager Kevin Sanchez. There will be much to report on next year from this rocker’s camp. With a new recording in the works and plans being mapped to support the effort, it should be fun to watch this journey.
To keep up with the beautiful singer-songwriter with a rocking spirit, be sure to like her music page on Facebook by clicking this link:

Big Jim Brings His Blues to Close Out the Night
Next up, we got down with the melodies and riffs offered by the incredible Big Jim Kohler. When Big Jim comes to call, you can bet the room will be full of the blues before long and sure enough, this was the case on Saturday night at The Brown Pelican!
Joining the jam was special guest Freddy Scott on guitar, Patrick Edwards beat on the bongos for a bit and Steve Hill filled the drummer’s seat and Chris Buttitta worked the bottom beats on bass. The blues quartet finished out the night with a great jam.
Did Someone Say Jam?
While we are on the subject of jams, let me mention a couple of things. First and foremost, before leaving the Brown Pelican, I will mention that they kick off their weekly music support with a weekly open mic night. That takes place every Thursday with music starting at 8 pm. All jammers are welcome to come out and display their talents. Quite often when you bring the band, you can leave with a gig date.
Now bouncing back to Big Jim, I want to mention that he is hosting a midweek blues night at City Stage and that is open for jammers also. Last week the big man was joined by a couple of guitarists, including Larry Swinson of the Wannabees and Freddy Scott, who was in town visiting family for the holidays. Dave Sawyer joined the fun on harmonica and his original bass player The General, Mike Sandvig closed out the night on stage offering the bottom beats.
These jams are going to become a part of the weekly offerings at the music venue located at 901 B Pollock St., New Bern, N. In fact this week, we got to meet a new player when Lee Tibbetts joined the band on harmonica. Tibbetts is new to the area and has been hungry to find some down-home blues players. He accomplished his mission with his appearance on Wednesday night. I suspect we might hear more from him again!
For fans and friends of Big Jim Kohler, you can find him tonight jamming with his wife and the band in the warm company of those that gather at Brutopia this evening. More on those details below.

Tonight it is a fun offering of regional sounds with
The Oblations, who are a one of a kind two-man Blues/Funk band by Joe MacPhail (drums and keys simultaneously, vocals) and Daniel Fields (guitar, vocals). The resulting sound is that of a three or four piece, as Joe imitates a rhythm section, or plays a piano and bass part while keeping time with his feet. Daniel is multifaceted, with a mastery of both finger style and slide guitar, and a host of evolving tones.
XOXOK hails from Carrboro, North Carolina. The music of XOXOK is conceived on the fretboard, cradled in headphones, and cultivated at the microphone. The guitar and vocal influences are far-flung but cohesive (Jeff Buckley, John Frusciante, Frank Ocean, James Blake). Often armed with just an electric guitar, the live performance is a model of intimacy and presence. With a “warm voice [that] embraces you” (Resonating Tunes), XOXOK delivers a combination of soulful, smooth, and soft tunes laced with unabashed emotion.
This free music offering will take place 8-11 pm. The Brown Pelican is a private club. Please sign up and pay your annual $1.00 fee to rock every weekend with the cool kids!
