Live Music Options for Thursday, July 14, 2016~

Tonight you can get a fix of live country music by Michael Ken¬†from 6-8 pm at Prissy Polly’s BBQ located at 729 Highway 66 South Kernersville, NC.


4EverAll will be live at Emerald Fest in Emerald Isle, NC from 6:30- 8 pm. You can find them at the Western Regional Beach Access beside The Islander.


Steel Shot, the Pamlico County duo featuring Shawn Mitchell¬†on guitar and vocals and Jeremy Lowery on bongos and vocals will be rolling Southbound tonight, performing live at the Fat Turtle Market & Tiki Bar located at 2181 New River Inlet Rd, ¬†North Top Sail Beach , NC. They will have the crowd rocking with their takes on classic rock, country and even a few of today’s hits from 9:30 pm -1:30 am.



For shore points to our east, ¬†Queen Anne’s Revenge located on S. Front Street in Beaufort, NC features Robert McDuffy live on the deck 6 – 9 pm.

This weekend they are also offering  Too Tall  live on the deck this Friday the 15th  and Davy Williamson,pictured above, on the patio this Saturday the 16th from 6-9 pm. This Sunday,  the 17th, they feature local soul soother Backseat Romeo from 3-6 pm.

****Ed Ward

Backseat Romeo, Ed Ward will be live at The Swansboro Yacht Club¬†from 6-9 pm. That is located at 126 Corbett Ave. in Swansboro, NC. This New Bern native has the ability to make you fall in love…if you are not hip to the date you bring, ¬†zero in on his fine voice and get carried away by his guitar grooves too.

Looking at the other days of the weekend, you can find him live at Carolina Wine Mixer this Friday from 7-10 pm, located in Emerald Island, NC. On Saturday he can be found  at Old Salt Restaurant from 7-10 pm. Then, as mentioned above he rounds out the weekend with an afternoon gig at QAR from 3-6 pm.


Good Morning Bedlam will perform live at Christy’s Euro Pub which is located at 301 S Jarvis St, Greenville, NC. Their show gets started about 10 and goes until 11:30 pm.


Get ready to rock in pirate fashion as Zen Pirates make landfall on the stage from 7-10 pm at Dukenfield’s Bar¬† which is located at 4285 Gum Branch Road, Jacksonville, NC. These fun rockers hail from New Bern, NC and play all the great dance tunes that help keep the floor moving and grooving throughout the night.



Justin Castellano will be live at Carolina Home & Garden from 6:30-8:30 pm in Newport, NC. This six string virtuoso is no ordinary strummer. He is classically trained and plays quite like no one I have ever heard. He makes his audience a part of the show and plays for them as he practices a craft he mastered long ago.

Castellano will also perform live in Morehead City this weekend. So if you want to do something with a first date, try dinner and dancing at Bistro By The Sea on Highway 70 E in Morehead City, NC. He performs Friday and Saturday 7-10 pm



Right here in town you can find ¬†John Van Dyke & Friends¬†live at Christoph’s on the Water located inside the Double Tree. Van Dyke gets the jam underway at 7 and plays his heart out until 10 pm. There are always special guest in the house to make it a ¬†jazzy ¬†delight.He will also be back there on the Deck this Sunday from 5-9 pm so be sure to catch his show at least one time this weekend.



Over on Broad Street you can stop by The Brown Pelican for their weekly open mic event. I have heard poetry and great talent on stage here. One particularly talented player and singer shows up each week to play a few of her songs. Country crooner, Tiffany Elaine performs each week at 9 during this event. Check her out if you can.



Live at Halftime Pub & Grub in New Bern on Martin Luther King Dr it’s Paid Time Off¬†live from 8-11 pm. Be sure to catch this father and daughter duo sometime soon. They give up a great show of acoustic accompaniment and dynamic vocals.

Live Music Options for Friday, July 15, 2016


Lotus Sun has two shows slotted for Friday. First they will be playing at Bike Night at Fayetteville Harley Davidson from 6-8 pm. Then they head over to Louie’s Bar located at 2417 Roberson St., Fayetteville, NC and rock the room from 10 pm – 2 am. These guys were a great way to end my night last week. Hope you can make it if you are out that way! Fun, funky fusion rock that never lost touch with their blues!! Sweet surprises with this band!


They offer a free Summer Concert Series at Riverwalk Crossing located at 421 Court St., Jacksonville, NC. This week they will present Freeway on stage from 6-8 PM, so grab a blanket for the kids and a couple of chairs and enjoy some music in the park! Looking to the west of the state Abe Reid & The Spikedrivers will be live at The Blind Tiger located at 1819 Spring Garden St., Greensboro, NC. Their show starts gets underway about 9:30 pm. I went and listened to their music and the only thing I can say is I wish Greensboro was as far as Greenville, I would probably stand up Marshall Tucker to see this band; that’s all I’m saying!


Up in High Point, NC Bobby Davis and Judy Blair are hosting the BMFD Acoustic Jam at After Hours Tavern located  at 1614 Main St., High Point, NC. They welcome all jammers after 7 pm and will jamming into the night until lights out at 2 am. Here is what I found on the event page.

Hank Barbee will be live at Mystery Brewing located at 230 S Nash St, Hillsborough NC.  His show is from 8 pm Р12 am and he will keep the crowd engaged. He has lots of original takes on common songs he also offers what could be your next easy grooving favorite from his own written treasure trove. Keep your eyes here for news and dates on this upcoming Carolina singer/songwriter. from Richlands, NC.


Johnny Cutt Promotions¬†is proud to present, Soften The Glare¬†live at¬†The Maywood, located at 658 Maywood Ave, Raleigh, NC. This progressive rock band offers the talents of Bon Lazaga who I met cutting the blues with Cuzin Kirk’s Blues Band and¬†features¬†Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne.¬†

They also have a gig slotted for Sunday at The Reel Cafe located at 100 S Front St., Wilmington, NC. They will jam from 6 -9 pm


Also in Raleigh this Friday you can see Urban Soil with Travers Brothership at  The Pour House Music Hall located at 224 South Blount St., Raleigh, NC. Things get started about 8:00 pm.


Built For Comfort Band will be live at the Red Room located at 220 North Heritage Street in Kinston, NC this Friday rocking their brand of blues, they ought to sound great on this stage. First time I caught these boys they were playing in a park down in Morehead City. Recently adding a new bass player to the line up, Built for Comfort Band  is fired up and ready to soothe your rocking blues desires!


Looking to the north I learned that Don Stewart, one of Eastern NCs most talented and versatile drummers, will perform with The Riverboat Dixieland Jazz Band at Ichibans from 6-9 pm That is located at 28 Hiway 33 W, Chocowinity, NC.


SideTracBand will be live at Market Street Pub in Washington NC from 10 pm- 2 am. You can expect them to play the best in modern country, country rock, rock, blues and of course their own original music. They have a high energy show that gets the crowd involved with the music and everyone is guaranteed to have a great time!



Looking South, lets have a gander around the Crystal Coast for a bit…Greenville’s rockingest big band, TrainWreck will be giving it up for the folks live on the deck at Southern Salt Seafood Company¬†located at 701 Evans St, Morehead City, NC from 10 pm – 2 am


Just over the bridge in Beaufort, NC; you can check out 4EverAll live at the Dock House Restaurant. This duo offers nice harmonies and a nice selection of songs to enjoy. They will be working for ya from 9 pm – 1 am right there on the waterfront.


I like to make all the stops, when I am in Beaufort myself, so be sure to check in on Turner Street and enjoy some food at Royal James Cafe. This place is just plain great. You can shoot pool, eat and toast your friends all night long and enjoy great live music.

 Cru Wine Shop  & Coffee Bar  across the road is great for a coffee stop or any night cap selection you can think of to got with your cafe. They too feature live music and often display great talents within their walls.

Just down the way from The Dock House Restaurant you can have more fun with live music on the deck at Queen Anne’s Revenge. They host players on the deck each Thursday thru Sunday.



Heading up the coast if you find yourself in Emerald Isle this weekend be sure to make your way over to EI’s premier club SALT Ultra Lounge who will be welcoming the sounds of the Machine Gun Band live this Friday from 10 pm ¬†2 m. This is a fun place every day of the week, but Friday’s here offer live music and great reasons to groove!


Moving back to town , as usual there is plenty going down in the Bern this Friday. Right after work, put your dancing shoes on and head on down to the Turn About in town at E. Front Street and Broad Street and get ready to rock with a triple deck of talent exploding where two rivers merge…oh indeed, we will be Rockin’ ¬†On The Rivers, this Friday with an event brought to us by New Bern Chamber of Commerce.


Gates will open at 5:00 pm and at 5:45 pm local rockers  3Day Weekend will open the show with a great rock and southern rock set. They will definitely get the crowd primed and ready for the night ahead!


Following the opening set, another local talent, Bryan Mayer will perform the second set starting at 7:20 pm. He will deliver his brand of country sounds that will rock souls for miles around.

Closing out the night at 9 pm will be the very first band I ever saw live in concert. I was 14 years old and the show was awesome. Now 33 years later I am looking forward to being in a field again listening to the sounds of The Marshall Tucker Band. I will have to include photos I take at the show that night in my recap on Sunday.

Pack a lawn chair or a blanket and head on to town for this fun family event! Tickets are $15.00 in advance and can be purchased at Mitchell’s Hardware on Craven Street, The Chamber of Commerce on S. Front Street or you can buy tickets for $20 at the door. Kids under 12 are free with a paying adult, so pack up the kids too and let’s rock!



Other options around town include Rick & Jenna Leigh Huff will be rocking  from 6:30- 9:30 pm live at Triple Play Restaurant.


Downtown you can find Bruce Lynch jamming on Middle Street, when he plays live at the Thirsty Bruin from 8:30 – 10:30 pm. Lynch will rock your soul with many familiar rock and southern rock selections. He is another treasure found playing all around town. Personally he inspires me each time I see him jam!



Down the street and around the corner on Broad Street¬†Jame Ford will be rocking¬†The Brown Pelican¬†from 6:30 – 10 :30 pm. Ford ‘s a talented player that puts his audience in the mood to groove in time to his good time music. If you have not seen this player shred his strings, put it on the to do list soon. He is a great talent and located right here in town!


The final show I have to tell you about for this coming Friday is happening down in Texas. Now, I know that is a little out of the Zone, but what makes it a perfect fit for this blues loving girl is the fact that Jimmie Vaughan and his Tilt-A- Whirl Band will be live at Antone’s in Austin Texas to Celebrate 41 years of live blues music. Tickets are still available for this show and can be purchased ¬†here¬†Tickets for Antone’s.

This is going to be an incredible night of celebrating the blues at a bar that helped to birth the Texas Blues movement! If I could be anywhere in the world tomorrow night, I would absolutely pick this venue. If you are lucky enough to live in Texas, near Austin, get grooving and buy your ticket today!

Live Music Options for Saturday, July 16, 2016~

Looking West of state first can find The Machine Gun Band live at DJ’s Restaurant & Skylounge¬†located at 1502 W Innis St. in Salsbury, NC. They will have the crowd rocking as they deliver and live and energetic show from 9 pm to midnight.


Grooving up the highway you can find Chartrouse Microbus live at Brewballs located on 3730 S Front St., Burlington, NC. They will rock you with their fun jams and have you grooving to their way out hippie vibe as they play for a birthday bash from 10 pm – 2 am.


One of this state’s most popular band’s, The Switch will be rocking the crowd at¬†Tony’s Oyster Bar & Restaurant¬†located at 107 Endinburgh Dr. S, Cary NC. They get the crowd fired up with their energizing show from 10 pm – 1:30 am.


Just north , between Wake Forest and Durham there is a benefit taking place at the Creedmore City Tavern. Here is what the Facebook event page wants us to know:

Over in Fayetteville, NC ¬†you can rock with¬†Lotus Sun¬† Live at Mac’s Speed Shop,¬†located at 482 N McPherson Church Rd, Fayetteville, NC.¬†for Summer Jam this Saturday from 7-11 pm.


Monkeywrench will be rocking The Red Room this Saturday from 10 pm Р2 am. They are located at 220 S Heritage St, Kinston, NC. I love the vibe of this place.


Looking to the North The Mickele Buck Band will be rocking the hometown crowd with their brand of country seasoned rock sets at Buccaneer Music Hall  located at 2120 Fire Tower Road in Greenville, NC . They get the party started at 10 pm and groove with you til 2 am.


Also in Greenville that night you can check out The Fustics live at Crossbones Tavern located at 114 E. 5th Street, Greenville, NC. They rock the house from 10 pm Р2 am.



Looking around the coastal region Hank Barbee will be live at Bake Bottle & Brew in Swansboro NC from 5:30 Р 8:30 pm


Live in Beaufort, NC at the Backstreet Pub this Saturday you can catch TONK rocking  on the patio from 6-10 pm

They also feature bands inside on Saturday nights and ask for a $3.00 cover that goes to the band directly. So come out and show your support for live music and rock your night away at The Backstreet Pub . The staff are great and music is always top notch. 


Over the bridge in Morehead City you can rock your cares away with Band of Fire live on the deck at Southern Salt Seafood Company from 10 pm til 2 am.

Another benefit concert happening near the coast is The Benefit for Wendy. This girl sadly was murdered recently and the Time Out Tavern itaking some time out to celebrate her life and while helping her family get through this most difficult time. Please show your support as they open their doors for an all night RAVE in Wendy’s honor. On the bill are many local bands. Here is what the Event page wants you to know:

Time Out Tavern was gracious enough to let us use the bar as a benefit venue for Wendy’s family. We will be remembering Wendy’s life and raising money to help the family through this traumatic event. We will be taking donations and there will be a cover charge of 5 dollars at the door. All door proceeds will be given to her family.

Heading west out of Newport and stopping in Havelock, NC, there are two events I found there for this coming Saturday. The first I want to tell you about is Altared live at TJ’s Cave, located at 925 E Main Street, Havelock, NC. Showtime is 6-9 pm.


Soon after that show wraps up head over to Jean’s Place on Highway 70 E in Havelock to check out a newly revised ¬†area rock band, Solid Ground¬†who will make their debut there this Saturday, rocking the house from 9:30 til closing.



Right here in New Bern, don’t forget they offer live music on the deck at The Double Tree each Saturday afternoon from 2:30 – 5:30 pm and this week they feature the sounds of ¬†Pauline Smith


Across the bridge in James City you can find a live open mic event at BruTopia being hosted by Matthew Kerlin. All players are welcome to join the jam between 6:30 – 9 pm.


Looking at options around town, be sure to welcome the Zen Pirates this Saturday to the Brown Pelican. The New Bern based classic rock cover act will make their debut at the dirty bird. Let’s make them feel welcome. They rock the room on Broad Street from 8-11 pm.



Over on Trent Road you can find the classic rock selections of Bruce Lynch will be rocking the Mesh Sports Lounge from 10:30 pm – 1:30 am. Get your groove on for free and enjoy great drink specials served by an awesome staff!

The Bears will be live at Mickey Milliagn’s this coming Sunday. Music starts at 5 pm and goes until 8 pm. Finger foods will be provided for this fun and early evening gig, debuting New Bern’s beloved band, The Bears! Make them feel welcome by showing your support.¬†¬†


There is a benefit Rocking Riders for a Cure taking place in Randleman, NC  at 5701 Randleman Rd. They event gets under way at 2 and finishes out about 10 pm. Great rock and for an awesome cause right here people!

Funk fusion rockers Lotus Sun has a show at the Lincoln Theater this Sunday from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. That venue is located at 126 E Cabarrus St in Raleigh, NC


Crobot¬†will be live with¬†The VirginMary’s and Aeges¬† all happening this Sunday at Hooligan’s Pub and Music Hall located at ¬†2620 Onslow Dr, Jacksonville, NC. This is an all ages event and doors open at 7 pm.

Mac & Juice Duo will be live at Queen Anne’s Revenge¬†on the waterfront in Beaufort, NC this Monday starting at 5 pm.

Live Music Options for Tuesday, July 19, 2016 ~

The same duo previously mentioned act will be live at the Arendell Room located at 715 Arendell Rd., Morehead City, NC. Rocking folks next Tuesday from 9:30 pm – 1 am.



Steel Shot is the house band every Tuesday at the Buccaneer Music Hall, on Fire Tower Road in Greenville, NC. They rock the room from 10 pm Р2 am.



Big Jim & Kathy Kohler host the open jam each week from 8 pm to midnight. at Triple Play Restaurant.  They ask that all you talented players come out and help them make the night fun and diverse.


Live Music Options For Wednesday, July 20, 2016 ~


Ashley Paul and Ben Prichard  will be live at The Shed, located at 807 E Main St., Durham, NC.


In town you can find an open mic event at Mesh Sports Lounge on Trent Road from 7-10 pm each and every Wednesday night. So come on and grab your gear and have some fun. You can find a lot of great talent in this town and right there at Mesh, like Jame Ford for example.
