Big Jim Blues News
Big Jim Kohler has been performing live on stages around the country for decades. While calling New Bern, NC home, this blues slinger is now slotted to make a weekly appearance on stage at The City Stage. The band was offered two nights per month of blues done right, until recently when the owner, Chris Straight approached Kolher on being a weekly feature. You can catch the band this week for their final Tuesday appearance at City Stage, but come back next Wednesday and each additional Wednesday for your mid-week blues boost!
Big Jim has a few other dates coming up as well. Tonight he and the boys will be rocking BrUtopia from 7-10 pm. Then next weekend the Band will be taking a pause for the cause and performing for Pamlico Community College. Next week you can catch Big Jim and his blues while showing your support for education at The New Village Brewery on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Located on Broad St, Oriental. the music for this event will play from 4-7 pm.
Tan Sanders Debuts at Dirty Bird
I heard a new talent by the name of Tan Sanders last night when I walked into the Brown Pelican. This stringer is not new to the scene, as his skill sets show me he is rather seasoned. The young singer-songwriter hails from Goldsboro, NC. He offers a great variety of songs that most bands don’t often touch. I enjoyed his offerings of Southern rock by way of Little Feet, Beach music with Buffet and original grooves that locked me in. If you have never heard Tan Sanders you have a couple more opportunities to catch him this weekend. Tonight he will be offering songs tonight at Double Barley Brewing in Smithfield, NC. Music will start at 7 pm. And tomorrow you can catch him in Wilson rocking The Whirligig Festival. More details on that below.
Duzan Delights During String Change
When Sanders broke a string, he called on local string Tommy Duzan Sr., to cover the show for a song or two while he changed strings. Duzan is a popular local act hailing from the Bridgeton area. He will be rocking The Thirsty Bruin on Friday, November 16. Mark the date and come to show your support. Music plays 8-10:30 pm.
Rick Huff Rocks the Bruin
Friday night brought the music of Rick Huff to the Thirsty Bruin. This New Bern native calls Emerald Isle home these days. This singer and stringer loves to share songs with friends and fans. He will tell you it is the best job in the world. He keeps busy offering songs to many along the coast and here where his roots first formed. When not flying solo you can catch him jamming with friends and often with his daughter Jenna as well. But when that happens they bill the dream as Paid Time Off.
Roman Sams Roll Into Town and Rock Blackbeard’s
The Roman Sams are Lenoir County’s premier classic rock band. Offering fun songs from the 60’s straight through the current day, this band rocks all genres and eras. This band has a talented blend of players with Matthew Hart and Dave Brown on guitars, Phillip Alcock on bass, Jasmine Best backing the beats, and the namesake and front singer Samantha Holland leads the way. Based out of Kinston, they have been a great fixture for rock infused fun around our region for years. If you have not seen them yet, they have a few more shows on the calendar this year.
