Wednesday’s Wonders –
Today’s first three events are all charity events that are taking place in the very near future.
First up, tomorrow night at The City Laundry located at 901 Pollock St. in New Bern, Cheri Moyers will be hosting a fundraiser for The National Federation for the Blind.
An amazing woman, on a journey of reinventing herself after losing all of her forward sight, leaving her with only peripheral vision, two weeks ago, Moyers was elected President of our new local chapter. Setting her sights on raising awareness and money for a cause that is very important to her, Moyers is getting right to work in her leadership role. Let’s all show her some love and support.
Tomorrow night she invites everyone to come out for a fun night, silent auction and great live music. It is free to get in but donations are not only welcome but appreciated! They are also tax deductible.
The City Laundry opened it’s doors last week for their big grand opening. This new little hot spot is offering amazing coffee, a light menu, beer and wine too! Their space serves as a play ground for all creative people! There is a stage for music and theater and an art gallery on the opposing side of the building!
It’s a neat new joint in town, and tomorrow they are opening their doors for everyone to take a pause for a really good cause! Locals helping locals! Amazing work gets done like that!
Next up it is the Party at the Barn, another great pause for the cause happening this weekend! On Saturday, September 10, 2016, staff, board and volunteers for Promise Place, our areas Sexual Assault Agency will gather in welcoming community members to The Batten Farm for the 3rd Annual Barn Bash. This is a 21 and over only event!
Tommy and Wendy Batten have opened their ranch up for the past three years for the sole purpose of championing this non profit and the important work they do! The purpose of the evening is to have a lot of fun while raising a lot of money for a great charity!
The way they do this is through sponsorships for the event as well as accumulate some awesome prizes for auction during the event! We are so grateful for our many sponsors and donors that make this the most amazing night in the history of this non-profit. This year will be the best yet! They offer amazing food, fun raffles, nice beer and wine glasses for purchase, and live entertainment that is good for your soul!
Just a few tickets are still available. Call Promise Place @252-636-3381 or stop by the office before 5pm on Friday! They are located at 1401 Park Ave., New Bern. Donations are always, always, always welcome here too!
Registration is $10 per rider and $5 for passengers and it starts at 10:30 am. All proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Your entry fee for the ride also serves as your fee for the bike show if you care to enter!

I recently spent sometime volunteering my cleaning services to help new owner, Kim Bledseo get ready for the Grand Opening. It was then that I learned she and her husband Jody are both Fayetteville, NC natives who owned and operated a community theater for several years before he accepted a job here in town.
Kim is versed in improv and enjoys teaching it too. So before looking at tonight’s live music options let me just fill you in on this cool little bit about Bledsoe and her love for improv. She is offering classes at her place, The City Laundry, for $100 per level, each level offers 8 weeks of classes.
Bledsoe is professionally trained in the art of improv from the famed IO Chicago (South) and an improv performer for 14 years. She is hoping to bring her passion for this art form to life in our town and I think she is probably on to something exciting, in case opening a new art gallery, coffee shot, theater and concert venue were not enough. For more information or to get signed up call 252-876-7007.
Live Music Options for Wednesday, September 7, 2016
Marron Chaplin will showcase her talents this Saturday evening at Mesh Sports Lounge located at 2500 Trent Rd, New Bern. For a sneak preview of this NYC entertainer who hails from Emerald Isle, come out tonight for open mic night! She will be hosting the jam and displaying a sample of what is to come this weekend!
For those lucky enough to be down around the Wilmington way, out for this acoustic jam with one of the sweetest sounding players in these parts, Adam Hill teaming up with the talents of J. Lane and Johanna Winkel at The Whiskey, located at 1 S Front St, Wilmington, NC. They will be rocking the room from 9 pm til the midnight hour.
Well we made it over the hump…go dance!
