NCMZ.LIVE ~ NC’s Source for Live Music Options and Local Band News

On the Scene with Tracey Stones

I stopped out at The Thirst Bruin Craft Beer & Wine Store, located at 224 Middle St., to check in with my friends Rick Huff and Larry Swinson, who teamed up for a night of music and good fun with friends. They rocked the house with classic fun tunes from 8-10:30 pm! You can stop in to support this local business and enjoy live music each Friday night.

Rick Huff keeps busy with his band Paid Time Off and sits in with friends when opportunity serves! Larry Swinson is locally known for his Wannabees fame! His classic rock band keeps busy around town and beyond. They have a gig at Triple Play on Friday September 1! They will rock from 9:30 pm til closing!

Adam Hill Band came to town last night to rock souls and melt faces. They gave up a great show of fun classics, that had the crowd dancing before the first set was over. They kept the good times rolling through the night, as they offered “the show to see” for folks who were hanging out in the Bern last night. This band never disappoints.

They have been working with me since last year and it has been a thrill to represent them. They make me feel so blessed and honored that I get to bring them to a new place. Nothing thrills me more that to say “this is the Adam Hill Band” and watch the crowd as they watch the band I love with awe in their eyes!

If you have yet to catch the Adam Hill Empiricism, be sure to keep up with dates and news by checking out his site at

Circa 1810 Harvey Mansion Restaurant & Bar is one of the coolest places around town to catch live music. They have a nice outdoor patio with couches and tables. They have a stage and it is used by performers each weekend to bring great music to fans and admirers. They have live shows each Friday and Saturday from 8-11 pm and on Sundays they offer music for dinner to unwind from the weekend. Music on Sunday is offered from 5-8 pm

Tonight you can enjoy the sounds of New Bern’s newest party band Limited Engagement featuring James Ford on guitar and vocals, Fred Scungio on drums and Billy Mobley on bass. They will be under the tent to rock you with all the favorites that make you dance tonight.

On Sunday you can check out the sounds of the blues with Big Jim  & Kathy Kohler, live from 5-8 pm at the Harvey Mansion. Nothing feels better then the sun going down on a great weekend with good food and great music.

Speaking of the blues duo, they were scheduled to play BrÜtopia last night, but that got held over. So you can check out the band tonight from 7-10 pm, as they bring their blues to you in New Bern. Located at 1201 Highway 70 East, New Bern, NC, BrUtopia offers music several times a month and always for free! Come out and support this local beer store. Owner Tim and manager Bryan are working hard at sharing their passion for beer and good times!

My final stop for the evening brought me to Off The Hook, where I had Hot Buttered Grits lined up for fun night of music, playing out on the deck. Located at 105 Evans St., Morehead City, NC, this is great little night spot located just across the road from the waterfront and serving the freshest catch and finest flavors. The owner Charlie Weatherby has been offering live music each Friday and Saturday and Sunday since opening his doors over a year ago. He is always looking for new bands that will bring fun to the people.

Coming up this evening you can catch the reggae sounds of Monjah, who kick off the grooves from 9:30 pm and keep the beats real til 1:30 am. There is a $5 music charge payable at the door.

Rocking Around the Region

The Roman Sams will be rocking in lil Washington, NC tonight. They bring their fun and rockin’ show to The Market Street Pub, located at 143 N Market St., Washington, NC. Music starts at 10 pm and the band rocks you til 2 am.

TrainWreck keeps it close to home after a fun Summer of travel and great gigs along the coast. Tonight they bring it back to The County Line Bar, to rock the room with their fun grooves from 10 pm til closing. There is always a free supper served on Saturday starting at 8 pm and there is also a music charge that starts at 9 pm for $10, but the music is always worth it. County Line Bar & Grill is located at 9527 Highway 903 N Ayden, NC. Tell Ed and Trish that Tracey sent ya! They are doing great things to keep music going in the country, so please support them.

While we are in the region we can hop over to Crossbones Tavern, located at 114 E 5th St., Greenville, NC, where we can enjoy the rockin’ blues sounds of The Build for Comfort Band, live from 8:30-11:30 pm. If you have not enjoyed this band yet or even if it has been a while, take the time to see them. They play many blues standards with original twists!

The final show I have to tell everyone about in some detail is the Shrimp Festival, which is in its 47th year and being held today and tomorrow in Sneads Ferry. On the bill this afternoon you can enjoy the sounds of Bad Disguise. Following their show there will be a Journey Tribute Band rocking the crowd and closing out night will be New Bern’s own country rock star, Bryan Mayer.
