Rockin’ Round The Region
Mac & Juice Quartet have a show tonight out around the middle of the state. These boys are taking NCMZ into new territory with a show tonight at The Bathtub Gin located at 166 N Main St, Morresville, NC. which is round about the middle of the state north of Charlotte, NC. This jam band with a scribed history started making music as a duo in college and have grown to be a four piece jam band that offer fun music to fans throughout the state and beyond. They are worth checking out. They love to get groovy and make you dance! The show starts tonight at 9 pm and the rock you until the midnight hour.
Since we are out about that way, tonight Tantrum will be performing live tonight at Stooges Pub & Grub located at 13230 Albemarle Rd. Charlotte, NC. They are celebrating a milestone of five years together as the ultimate tribute to classic rock. They hope you come out and help them celebrate the moments and rock with them tonight from 9:30 pm til 1:30 am. Feel free to come early for some great eats and stay long into the night for the rock n roll!
OTB better known as Outside Beltline have a show tonight in Cary. They will be rocking the place at Tony’s Oyster Bar located at 107 Edinburgh Ave. Cary NC. Music gets started at 10 pm and they will have you dancing til the break of morning at 1 am!
Sneaking around the RDU area, fans of classical music can enjoy the celebration of Mozzart’s Birthday with the North Carolina Symphony tonight with an engaement at Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, located at2 E South St., Raleigh, NC. For fans of rock music you can get a heavy dose of it tonight over at Slims Downtown located at 227 S Wilmington, St., Raleigh, NC. There are three bands ready to rock you tonight. DEMON EYE: heavy grooves and thundering riffs are the hallmarks of Raleigh’s Demon Eye. Dark doomy proto metal for those dark doomy days of late January.
TOKE: This Wilmington band has been a favorite of Primitive Ways right from the first hit. Rifftastic sludgy stoner doom that will keep you mesmerized and bleary eyed
Live tonight at Deep South The Bar, located at 430 S Dawson St., Raleigh, NC you can check out Lemon Sparks who kick off the night at 8:30 pm with lush guitar sound of classic rock. Following their show, check out The Well Respected Men who deliver a great variety of The Kinks classics. They take to the stage at 9:45 pm and will colse out the night about 1:30 am. Doors for the show open at 7 pm and tickets are $7.00
Ron Ross will be serving up the songs at The Real McCoys located at 3325 Rogers Road, Wake Forest, NC. He will start dishing out the music about 9:30 pm and looks forward to a night of magic as he makes you dance.
The Switch will be rocking the crowd at Locked & Loaded located at 305 McCormick St., Garner, NC. They are a fun and rocking party band that has been big in demand for as long as I have lived in NC. If you have not seen them tonight is as good a time as any. They get to rocking you at 10 pm and keep the party going til 2 am. You are encourage to come early for some great food and stay late for the good times!
Making our way back to the coast along Highway 70, our next stop brings us to Clayton Beverage and Taproom located at 11679 US 70 Business Hwy W, Clayton, NC where tonight they feature the sounds of Head Up Penny. Music starts tonight at 7:30 pm and they will be giving uo the grroves til 10:30 pm. You are encouraged to come out and drink great beer and listen to awesome music tonight! Sounds like a winner to me!
Blues fans, this is exciting! Skyla Burrell Blues Band have a show tonight at Mother Earth Brewery located at 311 N Heritage St., Kinston, NC. The show starts at 9 pm and they will rock your soul til 1 am. I have been freinds with guitar man Mark Tomlinson since my days of covering the national blues circuit. That was a lifetime ago, but he is still playing the blues and I am still digging it so I look forward to hearing what he and his lady are cooking up on stage tonight. Come on out and enjoy their only area appearance on the calendar. The PA based outfit are on the way down to the delta for a quick stint and we are fortunate enough to have them here with us tonight NC!!!!
While we are haning around town, I should also tell classic rock fans the The Roman Sams are now scheduled to rock the house at The Red Room located at 221 N Heritage St., Kinston, NC. They get their party started at 10 m and keep the party going til about 2 am. There is a $5.00 music charge payable at the door.
Coming around to The Mad Boar Restaurant located at 111 River Rd., Wallace, NC, they are featuring the rocking sounds of the acoustic duo, Dos Eddies. They will be rocking the room from 8:30 til 11:30 pm.
Looking around Greenville, NC I found that Of Good Nature and Lovely Budz will be bands deliving the grooves. Both are full on funk with rocking reggae beats and both bands will rock you tonight at Crossbones Tavern located at 114 E 5th St., Greenville, NC, Showtime is slotted for 10 pm and they will rock the room til 1 am.
For fans of agressive folk rock, Mercy Creek will provide a night of music at V I L L E G D E Wood Fire Kitchen located at 207 SW Greenville Blvd., Greenville, NC. Music starts tonight at 8:30 pm and plays til 11:30 pm. Come early and enjoy some great food and stay late to enjoy the fun music.
Heavy thrash rockers looking for a fix, you can get it tonight at Hooligan’s Music Hall located at 2620 Onslow Dr., Jacksonville, NC. They have four band ready to rock you tonight with A Killer’s Confession closing out the night. Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 in advance. Door open at 8 pm and music starts shortly thereafter. For those with softer tastes in music you can head over to Biagio’s located at 622 Court St., Unit 100, Jacksonville, NC and enjoy the sounds of FreeWay who will deliver an unplugged performance tonight from 7:30 til 10:30 pm.
~ Gettin’ Down Around Town, New Bern, NC ~
Ed Prophet will be delivering the music to the folks at Bear Town Market located at 402 S Front St., New Bern, NC. He will offer his best selections from 7 pm til 10 pm and this show is free of charge. Local crooner and talented stringer, Prophet is a skilled player offering a variety of styles to keep the night interesting. Come on and dance to the beat his his great grooves tonight and check out the remodeling job of BTM!
For an eclectic night of sounds, stop by the Trent River Coffee Company located at 208 Craven St., New Bern, NC. This evening for he will be offering Around the World in 80 Tunes. Simon Spalding plays Trent River Coffee Company on Friday, January 27, presenting “Around the World in 80 Tunes”. The concert will feature musical instruments and tunes from near and distant lands. Get ready to embark on a magic carpet ride of fun, exotic sounds at this evening of musical globe-trotting!
The instruments include a nyckelharpa from Sweden, a kemane from Uzbekistan; a joura from Greece; a hardangfele from Norway, an erhu from China; as well as a 4-stringed instrument known as dorvon chiktei huur in its native Mongolia. A zany addition to the lineup is a kazookeylele, which combines ukulele, toy piano, and kazoo into one instrument!
Simon will share both traditional tunes for the instruments and musical surprises; as well as possibly a guest performer or two! Some of the instruments are rare instruments recently acquired from distant corners of the globe.
Trent River Coffee Company is at 208 Craven Street in New Bern. Doors open at 6:00, the music begins at 7:00pm: tickets are $10, available at the door. Free admission for those under 18. Call 252-514-2030 for more information.

James Ford; local rocker and business owner will be offering up his best selections of pop, rock, rap, and blues this evening for the folks at The Brown Pelican located at 411 Broad Street, New Bern, NC. He gets to rocking souls about 7 pm and keeps them in the groove til 10 pm. If you have not heard Ford, he is a talented player always learning and stretching out during his performances. It has been fun to see him grow as an artist. I met Ford a couple years ago when he joined the Jim Kohler Band as the bass man for a bit. Since then he has come into his own and enjoys playing for the people.
Bryan Mayer will be performing tonight here in his home town, offering an acoustic show to those dining and drinking at Beer Army Burger Company located at 313 Pollock St, NEw Bern NC. He gets the music started at 9 pm and will keep you in the groove til midnight!

There is a Jazz Jam being hosted by John Van Dyke at The City Laundry located at 901 Pollock Street. He will open the stage to friends as they share great music with the Friday night crowd.
I stopped out last night for Vintage Thursday featuring Alisa Mike and it was nice to see the many changes. Kim Bledsoe is working hard to bring a unique vibe to the New Bern area. she has opened the plalce up a bit and added some great selections to the menu. She is also open for Sunday Brunch as of last week.
