GEM Productions welcomed visitors and concert goers to town, with their third installment of opening night fun at Bernaroo Music & Arts Festival. Isaac Taylor Garden on Craven St is where it all got started again this year. On the bill for the night we enjoyed the local grooves of Bearfoot Monty, who offer a great rocking original sound.
Following them, Hank Barbee brought his big band of Dust Paraders and offered the crowd a great night of fun and fat sounding originals with lots of surf overtures. He opened and closed his 75 minute set with original offerings that have not been captured in the studio. It is so fun watching this guy blossom back into a band leader, leading his own band is where things got started.
Closing out the night Isaac Taylor was a fun and crazy good band from Snow Camp, NC. The Tan & Sober Gentlemen brought their fun string bending hillbilly music with Irish~Celtic flair and put on an energy driven show from their first song til their last.
If you are a fan of hillbilly music done right, this is the band to see. Find them on Facebook and check them out soon if you get the chance. They will make you forget your worries and make you dance.
The After Party for this year’s Bernaroo for night one of two took place at The Brown Pelican, located at 411 Broad Street and offered us the sounds of Justin Lacy and his soon to be named band. Offering an interesting blend of sounds, I enjoyed this original singer/ songwriter with a band backing him. He is a talented player out of Wilmington with an interesting grunge folk that is to be compared to much else you will hear!
Day two of Bernaroo Music & Arts Festival will be underway at the “this goes to press” with a day show, kicking things off where we left them last night. Please come out to this portion of the Bernaroo event. It is a free showcase of NC talent for you to enjoy, from 2 until it is time to head to Live at The City Laundry.
Located at 901 Pollock St, New Bern, Live at The City Laundry will host night two of the events as well as the after party. Doors for night two open at 5 pm and once again GEM Productions will give you a lot of bang for that $15, to enter with three new bands being featured tonight.
Here are the links to check out for the acts on the bill tonight:
Ancient Cities –
J Rowdy & The NightShift –
Seabreeze Diner –
Following those three special acts the After Party will welcome another act to the stage.
There are of course always options when it comes to live music and finding it around town. Some of the other options include the sounds of the talented Shawn Mitchell who will be live on the patio playing the songs you love to move and groove to this evening at The Harvey Mansion, located at 221 S Front St., New Bern, NC. Music starts at 8 and they groove you til 11 pm. Come have fun and dance Mitchell tonight!
Another free show that is not connected with Bernaroo is that of Steel County Express, who make their debut at The Brown Pelican, located at 411 Broad St. Music starts at 8 pm. This is a members only club and it costs $1.00 to join this club. So stop out, sign up and come on in to get down with the country sounds of SCE til 11 pm.
There is a double bill of talent at Trent River Coffee Company located at 208 Craven St., New Bern . On the bill tonight we meet Nashville singer-songwriter Jeff Miller who is passing through our town while on tour. Tickets for his show tonight at $10 and available at the door. Opening for Miller is the good time sounding family band Strung Together Band featuring the talented Oliver Family. Doors open at 6 and music starts at 7:30 pm. Here are more details I found on the events page about the touring artist:
“Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and looping guitarist returns to Trent River Coffee Company during his Annual East Coast Tour on Saturday, July 15 at 7:30 pm. His music will mesmerize and invigorate you! Opening for Jeff Miller is one of New Bern’s favorite local family bands, Strung Together. George Oliver and his family will make you smile and fill your heart with joy with their beautiful and inspiring music and vocals.
Seating is limited, purchase your tickets today! This is one concert you do not want to miss. Visit https://
The final show I found around the immediate area is that of Stoney Creek a fun talented duo who will bring their show to BruTopia this evening from 7-10 pm. For those looking to stay on the James City side of life, this is a fun option for enjoyable music. It is also free, but feel free to tip the players. ALL of the players you see tonight!
