For years, I served as a board member for this organization. I even served as their President for a short time 2014-2015. They are my personal charity of choice and I stand behind all of their efforts in healing the victims of rape and sexual abuse or assault. They raise awareness about the crisis we face in the community where sexual assault is prevalent; even if nobody wants to talk about it. They offer counseling services, advocacy and education via community outreach. They train daycare centers, parents, churches and institutions about the reality of sexual assault. They help victims heal and become victors of their own lives!
Above are photos from the First and Second Annual Events. This year is going to be awesome. I look forward to being on site volunteering again this year with many gracious friends.
I ask everyone to stand with me in supporting this non profit that does incredibly important work, They need your donations throughout the year, but this is the one event that helps keep their services and operation growing and expanding . For more information on how you can help or to find out more about Barn Bash give Promise Place a call a 252-636-3381.
On Monday I told you that I caught up with the reformed Cuzin’s when they played live at Triple Play Restaurant, marking the trio’s New Bern debut!
Talking to guitar man Les Wetherington since the show, he reminded me that his friend Pete Huttlinger who passed away last year after a long illness, originally started the band years ago. Since his death his band mates reunited in the hopes of making music while honoring their friend’s memory.
The band won’t be signing up for a lot of dates. They plan to get together for three to four shows each year. However, two of the remaining members are working on a duo and expect to bring their show to the people in the next several weeks. Look for Cyn-Les Cuzin’s live around town soon.
For folks around the Pittsboro area, Bob Carlin will offer a lecture at Chatham Community Library, located at 197 NC Highway 87 N, Pittsboro. His presentation “Piedmont String Band Music; the African American Connection,” gets started at 6 PM, it’s free and open to the public.
The Silo’s Restaurant located at 1111 Broad St., Oriental, NC hosts an open mic night each Wednesday! Pack your gig bag and be on hand between 7-10 pm to join in the fun.
John Morgan, bar manager and bartender also welcomes jammers to Open Mic Night each Wednesday at Mesh Sports Lounge located at 2500 Trent Rd., New Bern. Music starts at 8 and jams until the players go home! Come on out and support local music.
Well kids that is the wrap on what’s good ahead and all that is happening tonight. Thanks for reading and please enjoy the dance!
