Airpark w/ The Vanguard Party, Lawrence Trailer, The Dawn Drapes
Airpark is an alternative pop/rock duo made up of brothers Michael Ford, Jr. and Ben Ford – both formerly of The Apache Relay. Their namesake is a former private airport, long abandoned and finally repurposed by the city of Nashville as a community park.
Airpark founders Michael Ford, Jr. and Ben Ford have always played music together. Born 16 months apart outside New Orleans, the two landed in Nashville due to Hurricane Katrina and the pursuit of higher education.
In the years that followed, the brothers’ musical history evolved similar to that ever-changing airport. It ebbed and flowed with departures and arrivals . . . some delayed and some unexpected. These travels produced new perspective and brought Airpark back to the beginning – a duo, repurposed and a musical identity, reclaimed.
Their calling cards are instinctive melodies and family harmonies coupled over a groove-oriented, alt-pop fingerprint. Airpark is stoically sonic and uniquely committed to innovation over repetition. And so the evolution continues with new songs and redefined goals.
Michael Ford, Jr. and Ben Ford have been active in the diverse Nashville music scene since 2005. They have performed across the USA, Canada and Europe and alongside the likes of Mumford & Sons, Jenny Lewis, Young the Giant and Trampled By Turtles. Their music has been placed in such films as The Way Way Back, Safelight and the television program Legit on FX.
Live tonight at Neptunes, located at 14W Martin St. Raleigh NC, you can check out Landlady and Blanko Basnet. Doors for this show open at 7 pm and music starts at 9 pm. Tickets are $10 and available at the door. For more on the headlining act, I found this on the Facebook event page:
“Landlady occupy a big middle space always in need of willing entrants: brainy, melodic pop-rock. They move through their second record Upright Behavior like the USS Sincerity, offering to share with you in your biggest fears: death, loneliness, lack of purpose.” – Pitchfork
“This is the part of the song when we come together,” Adam Schatz’s voice rings out. “There’s no before. There’s no after. There’s only this.” Schatz leads Landlady, the Brooklyn five-piece whose 2014 Hometapes debut, Upright Behavior, boldly disrupts the notion of genre and reveals the soulful and continually resonating work of Schatz and core band members Ian Chang, Ian McLellan Davis, Booker Stardrum, and Will Graefe, as well as a cast of NYC-based contributors gathered from Schatz’s tandem
walks of life as a solo musician, improviser, organizer, collaborator, promoter, and writer. Compared to rock and roll juggernauts like The Band and Talking Heads, Landlady merge vast skill, a bend toward experimentation, and a proven belief that songs can be a true extension of the human experience. The result is timeless and charted by their recorded works and transformative live shows — both critically acclaimed and ever-evolving. Landlady released a new EP, Heat, this summer, in tandem with nationwide tours with Son Lux and Buke and Gase.
