Closing out the event at Carrboro Music Fest is local guitar ace, Matt Phillips and the band Back Pocket will take the stage at 11 pm. You can catch them at 2nd Wind located at 118 E Main St., Carrboro, NC. Phillips is a funky and fresh player with jazz overtones and cutting blues licks, he is pretty amazing solo, would love to hear him with a full band.Maybe you can head over there tonight and go live for me!!!
Looking to the North, I found a couple of family friendly free events happening in Greenville. First up you can head over to Pitt County Fairgrounds located at 3901 Greenville Blvd., Greenville, NC where you can enjoy the gospel sounds of Southern Harmony from 3 til 4 pm this afternoon
Once things wrap up at the Fairgrounds head over To A.J. Fletcher Music Center over at the college to enjoy the Recital and Masterclass of Joseph Loveinsky. I think anyone who takes in both events will have a new lease on life with a soul filled of music inspiration.
For this second event here is what I learned:
We welcome Joseph Lovinsky, formerly Principal Horn of the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” to ECU for a Masterclass (3:00-4:00 PM) and Recital (4:30 PM) in room B110. Dr. Joanna Ross Hersey will join him for the Sonata for Horn, Tuba and Piano “Dancing with Myself” by Barbara York, as well as other solo works for horn, euphonium, tuba and piano. Anyone is welcome to put their name in to perform in the masterclass, names will be drawn by Dr. Hersey. Free Admission, no tickets required, please join us!
Looking around to the South I found another couple of options for your consideration.
Heading down Highway 17 S we can stop in Jacksonville and check out Gene Gregory who will be rocking his brand of country and rock classics from 4 – 7 pm. That good time will be taking place at The Outpost Saloon, located at 3038 Richlands Highway, Jacksonville, NC.
Another great live option for thoses even further South along the coast…check out Trae Pierce and The T-Stones live and in concert tonight at The Whiskey located at 1 S. Front St., Wilmington, NC.
Here is everything you need to know about this show:
