When the Purple Schoolbus makes a stop – everybody gets off!
Purple Schoolbus is an original band, playing original music. With their grooves, harmonies, and jams, they are often described as a cross between CSN, the Grateful Dead, and Santana; but are best described as “Southern Fried San Francisco”. The seven piece ensemble features Scott Scala and Todd May – drums and percussion, Bernie Taylor – bass and vocals, Kevin Sledge-guitar and vocals, Micah Peedin-lead guitar and vocals, Jesse Jennings – keyboards, and Mark Harris- saxophones.
Purple Schoolbus formed in early 1992 in Greenville, NC. They have released two critically acclaimed albums: Purple Schoolbus and Phoenicia Blind; and are currently adding the finishing touches to their third album. The “Bus” has played hundreds of live performances while touring as far north as New England , south to Florida, and as far west as the Rocky Mountains with many cool stops in between.
Live tonight at Doodad Farm located at 4701 Land Rd., Greensboro, NC you can enjoy the grooves of Laurelyn Dosset and Friends. Here is what I learned about this show on the Facebook Event page:
On Saturday, September 24, 2016, we’re handing the reins of Doodad Farm over to Laurelyn Dossett, one of our area’s musical treasures. We’ve asked Laurelyn to bring in any musicians she wants and to perform anything she wants to perform.
There’s no denying that Laurelyn Dossett is one of North Carolina’s most successful and admired musicians, with a decades-long career that only seems to expand with each bold new musical project she undertakes. Far more than just an angelic-voiced performer, Laurelyn has written original scores for six Triad Stage productions, appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, teamed up with the North Carolina Symphony as a composer, written the title track of a Grammy-winning album, and toured with the likes of Rhiannon Giddens, Alice Gerrard, and Kari Sickenberger. One of the most sought-after voices in creative collaborations, Laurelyn is at the hub of the Piedmont musical community, and you’ll often see her on stage surrounded by stunningly talented folks.
