Dan Jam is a common feature at The Brown Pelican, located at 411 Broad St., New Bern that ushers you in to the weekend with the first ArtWalk jam session at the popular little watering hole.  He starts the jam just as soon as the 5 o’clock whistle blows, guitars will be tuned and ready and Dan Phillips works the players til 8 pm. This is always a fun and eclectic music experience and you never know who is going to join the jam.



Don’t you know that just across the way, from the Dirty Bird, sits the New Bern Firemen’s Museum. That reminds me to tell you about the next show starting up at 6 pm…Cuzin’ (Above) and 3 Day Weekend (below) will be performing live on behalf of New Bern  Firemen’s Museum. This benefit concert includes dinner and is taking place at The Riverfront Convention Center where the bands will keep you rocking until 10 pm.

Ticket price is $30/person in advance; $35/person at the door. Includes BBQ dinner, open beer, wine and soft drink bar, music and dancing with Cuzins and 3 Day Weekend! Tickets on sale at New Bern Firemen’s Museum, New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, New Bern Fire Rescue Headquarters and Mitchell Hardware. Event sponsorship is available. Please call David Finn at 252-638-5994. All proceeds benefit New Bern Firemen’s Museum.

Tomorrow evening there is a folk show happening at Trent River Coffee Company located at 208 Craven St., New Bern, NC. Tickets will be available at the door or you can get yours by visiting

This is what I learned about the duo in the Facebook Event page:

James Moore and Kort McCumber are an acoustic duo that crafts beautiful story songs that walk the line between roots folk and melodic pop. based in Superior Wisconsin; Moors is an award winning song writer, guitarist and vocalist. Colorado’s own McCumber is a multi talents instrumentalist who plays guitar, banjo, fiddle, cello, mandolin, piano, Irish Bouzouki and Weissenborn just to name a few. He has  also won multiple songwriting competitions



Fools Rush In will be live at The Rivertowne Ballroom. Bring some wine and snacks and come enjoy a fun night of jazz and swing standards. Located at 305 Pollock St., New Bern. This is a monthly feature following ArtWalk. Tickets are $10.00. Music starts at 8 pm.

Buck Loy will be at Bear Town Market live tonight from 8- 11 pm. Located at 402 S Front St., New Bern, NC. There is no admission for this show. Loy offers a variety of popular songs that he works out on his acoustic  guitar.


Bruce Lynch

Bruce Lynch will be providing the entertainment at The Thirsty Bruin at 224 Middle St., New Bern, NC. He will be rocking the room from 8-10:30 pm. There is no admission for this show. Lynch offers a variety of familiar rock favorites from the 60’s to the 90’s.

For those looking for fun with the whole family following ArtWalk you can stop by The City Laundry located at 901 Pollock St., New Bern, NC and enjoy a show with the beloved and talented Oliver Family who will be performing for the series Music After ArtWalk.with their band Strung Together. Here is what I learned on the Facebook Event page:

Strung Together will be performing at The City Laundry in downtown New Bern after ArtWalk from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13th. Strung Together is the Oliver family band, and we perform many different types of music like folk, Americana, pop, country, etc. Tickets are $5 at the door. Family-friendly event!!


~ Crusin’ the Coast ~

Put on your shag shoes baby and meet me at SALT ULTRA LOUNGE located at 325 Mansgrove Dr., Emerald Isle. NC. The Embers featuring Craig Woolard. Doors open at 6 pm for this show and the party continues all night long. So stop by EI’s premier night spot for fun all night with your favorite Beach Music Party Band.

Looking around the Beaufort area, you can enjoy the sounds of the talented and charismatic duo 4EverAll who will be live tonight from 8-11 pm at Cru Bar & Wine Store/Beaufort Coffee Shop located at 120 Turner St., Beaufort, NC.

Live tonight at The Royal James Cafe located just across the way at 117 Turner St., Beaufort, you can get grooving to the Telluride Bluegrass Band. They will be picking and grinning and doing their thing from 9 pm til midnight. This show is free and have I ever mentioned the burgers are the best. Come on out early and stay late…Beaufort is always worth the trip

Though not music related, I figured I would throw this at you..since it is live entertainment, just of a different sort. Live at Mac Daddy’s you can enjoy a comedy driven magic show.  Bryan Sanders will perform live tonight. Doors open at 8 pm and the show starts  8:30 pm. There is a $5.00 cover charge for this event. Mac Daddy’s is located at 130 Golfin Dolphin Dr., Cape Carteret, NC

Back to the music…Looking around the southern shore region The Almond Bros. Band have a show tonight at Shelby Jean’s Restaurant located at 15 Carolina Beach Ave. N., Carolina Beach, NC. Show starts at 8 pm and the boys will be rocking you til midnight.

The Folkstone Stringband have a show tonight at Waterline Brewing Company.located at 121 Surry St. Wilmington, NC.They will be live from 7-9 pm.Poor Piggy’s BBQ will be on the menu and beer is always on tap.

Live tonight at Halftime Sports Bar & Grill, located at 1107 New Pointe Blvd, Leland, NC you can enjoy the rocking country sounds that will make you dance courtesy of Steel County Express. Music starts at 9:30 pm and this show is free.


~ Rockin’ Around The Region ~


Steel Shot’s Jeremy Lowery  will be live at Gary’s Down East Seafood  & Oyster Bar filling in for Julius Padilla of Silver Creek. Padilla was involved in a tragic car accident which left his arm busted up and sent his beloved and beautiful pit bull to heaven. Lowery mentioned in his post that they will be taking a collection for the Padilla Family at the gig. So if you come out for the Silver Creek Show tonight, please donate to this family in need.  Music starts tonight at 7 pm. Gary’s Down East Seafood & Oyster Bar is located at 7610 Highway 306 S,  Arapahoe, NC

Looking to our North, Mason Jar Bonfire have a show tonight at Buck Wild Tavern located at 4052 S Memorial Dr., Winterville, NC. Music starts at 10 and the band will groove you til 2 am.

I actually found a few show around that region including Rural Route Romance R3X will be live tonight at Tiebreakers Sports Bar & Grill located at 1920 Smythwyck Dr., Ste B. Greenville, NC. They will be throwing down the grooves from 10 pm til 2 am.

There is a double bill over at Crossbones Tavern located at 114 E 5th St., Greenville, NC. On tap for your grooving pleasure is the New Bern based original act Bearfoot Monty (below) will open the show and Nitrogen Tone who will close out the night. Music starts at 10 pm and the grooves go all night til 1 am.

Speaking of New Bern’s own, Bryan Mayer with the Still Shakers will be happening tonight over at The Buccaneer Music Hall located at 2120 Fire Tower Rd., Greenville, NC. Music starts at 10 and this fun talent will be rocking his own brand of country til 2 am.

Before leaving the Greenville area let me first tell you about this show taking place at Emerge Gallery & Art Center tonight. Located at 404 Evans St., Greenville, NC; they are offering African-American Music Series and tonight’s show features the music of Vaughn Ambrose and Mitch Butler. Music starts at 7 pm and they will play sweet sounds until 10 pm. Here is the information I found on the Facebook Event page:

Emerge Gallery & Art Center, Home of the Pitt County Arts Council, is very excited to announce a new music series celebrating the rich heritage of African-American Musicians with ties to Eastern North Carolina, with artistic director, Carroll Dashiell, Jr., House Band, and a special monthly guest artist. Please share within your network and we hope that you will be able to attend!

The African-American Music Series is a monthly music series happening the second Friday of each month, celebrating the rich heritage of African American musicians.

Looking around the western side of the state we can start things off at Common Grounds Coffee House & Music House located at 20 Cheves Rd, Bunn, NC will be hosting an evening of bluegrass music featuring the sounds of White Pine Hollow Reunion. The band starts playing at 7 pm and keep the groove going til 10 pm.

Live tonight at Amici’s Pizza Sports Bar & Grill located at 929 Concord Parkway S., Concord, NC it is the award-winning sounds of Tantrum. They will start rocking you at 9:30 pm and make it last til 1:30 am.

Over in RDU area at The Real McCoy’s located at 3325 Rogers Road, Wake Forest, NC you can catch the Mike Davis. He will be jamming from 9:30 pm til 12:30 am.

The Adam Hill Band will be rocking The Red Room located at 220 N Heritage St., Kinston., NC. They get the show started at 10 pm. There is a $5.00 music charge at the door but the music is worth every dime of admission. This band is a solid unit offering full tilt rockin’ laced blues; rich with overdrive guitar grooves. But, that is just what I think, be sure to check them out for yourself soon.


Well kids, that is where you can go to for fun and good times while incorporating live music. Go out with love in your heart, hug strangers and enjoy the dance. Life is hard and we are made for the struggles, but it is easier to cope if you enjoy a little music therapy. It helps your soul and you help support live music so it is a win ~ win!
