On Tuesday, I told you about our new local resident singer here in New Bern, NC. Fairlight Moriah moved to town this past summer and has been finding her way about town slowly, when suddenly on Sunday she found herself back on a stage and with a microphone in hand and you can tell this is a natural state of comfort for this girl. She was born to sing her blues. Of course after learning this, I wanted to make her feel welcome in her new surroundings and asked he to come out to open mic at La Rosa’s Italian Restaurant.
On Wednesday evening she introduced herself to the crowd with a new song written by her new friend and local talent, Vinny Farro. “Wanted Too” was a song penned and rehearsed by the duo earlier that day. It was a fun way to welcome her to the stage. Next up it was the low down blues of Stormy Monday, with local player Randy Moore offering the guitar work. Next up, she tore it all down when she teamed up with Aaron Davenport, who assisted with a couple of tunes.
While I was out and about, I got to speak to the host of the jam Justin Hargett about his project Bearfoot Monty. They just recently finished up the recording of their first EP, which will offer fans six recorded songs of this New Bern based rock band. The release will come just after the turn of the new year. Keep it here for more information as the time draws near. There will be many shows to support this effort and I will be sure to share them as they come available.
Some of the other players I got to touch base with include Cleve Pomranky, who offered several selections some new to me, while others familiar. I also enjoyed the sounds of that sweet Tom Sellman, as he offered a few Stones selections including Wild Horses and Mother’s Little Helper.
