On The Scene With Tracey Stones
Let us all remember the kids and our wonderful Marines and the work they do collecting Toys for Tots. It is officially the season of giving with #GivingTuesday now in our wake and Christmas straight ahead, so bring an unwrapped toy to a stop near you!
Last night I headed out to see the Craven Community Concert Band‘s Annual Holiday Concert. The event took place at Grover C Fields Middle School. The holiday program was just over an hour in length, conducted mostly by Mitchell Martin. One song, “Greensleeves” however, was led by the hands of Gene Jones,
The band featured six flutes, five trumpets, three tubas, two oboes, five french horns, nine clarinets, two alto sax players, two tenor sax players, two bass clarinets, two euphoniums, eight trombones and five percussions players on one stage.
They opened the show with crowd participation and the Star Spangled Banner and they ended it on a Christmas Sing Along. Between those numbers they offered nine other songs to delight the near full auditorium of appreciators, The program was narrated by Robert Womack.
Here is the band performing “In the Christmas Mood,” a nice medley of Christmas offerings arranged by John Wasson
