Getting Down Around Town New Bern, NC

The latest classic rock outfit to return to the New Bern scene, Peace Soldier will be live and rockin’ tonight on the patio at Circa 1810 Restaurant & Bar at Harvey Mansion, 221 S Front St., New Bern, NC. Music plays from 8-11 pm.  For those who are curious about live music outside in November, please note, they have the heaters out and it is comfortable if you dress for the outdoors.

GEM Productions is excited to announce return of Carrboro’s  bombastic rock-duo, The Oblations. Just a few months ago this raucous two-piece stopped into The Brown Pelican and left folks in awe of their sheer musical prowess. They loved it, you loved it, so we’re bringing ’em back for more! Join us this Saturday from 8 – 11 for two sets of fantastic tunes! The Brown Pelican, 411 Broad St., New Bern, NC.

For those unfamiliar, The Oblations take your expectations of a rock-oriented duo and throw ’em out the window. Joe McPhail is manning drums and keys at the same time while Daniel Fields mesmerizes on guitar, making this two-piece band feel like a larger than life, extravagant rock band. Their musical stylings mix rock, funk, jazz, folk and blues together into one amalgamous blend of enchanting sounds.

There’s few better ways to spend a Saturday in New Bern than soaking in some beautiful vibes at The Brown Pelican, so come get down with us for an evening full of free tunes!

Just over the bridge in James City it is, Daryl Lucas live tonight from 7-10 pm at BrÛtopia, 1201 Highway 70 East, New Bern, NC. Come out tonight and support local live music, and enjoy the tastes of Nest Cafe Food Truck, on sight to serve the tastes you enjoy washing down with local brewed beer.

The beer stop and store is getting ready to expand and start brewing on site. They have been working hard and raising funds to pull of the next phase of this business growth. They are doing an awesome job. If you have not been there come out soon to see what is new. For those who are all about the homebrew scene, here is a way to support our own local brewer. The owners recently started a go fund me page to help defer costs. To help their efforts visit this link:

Live at Harrika’s Brew Haus, 911 Cedar Point Blvd., Cedar Point, NC, it is the sounds of Hustle Souls and Asheville based band. Here is what I found on the band’s Facebook page:

Hustle Souls is a soul and roots rock band based in Asheville, NC who are quickly growing in reputation from Tennessee to NYC as one of the most exciting bands in the South East. With 4-part vocal harmony, get you on your feet grooves, trumpet, head turning solos, and B3 organ, Hustle Souls create music that sparks nostalgia from New Orleans to Muscle Shoals but is undeniably fresh and new.

The biergarten or garage bar will be rockin with an awesomely exciting Asheville roots and soul band. Let’s party with great beers, a kick ass band and to serve on site will be the Urban Street Eats Food Truck.

Music starts at 7 and plays til 10 pm.

Heading a little bit south we find Folkstone Strings will give up the beats at Bill’s Front Porch, 4238 Market St, Wilmington, NC, for a live show this evening from 7-10 pm. If you like high energy bluegrass, be sure to come dance tonight.

Just Yesterday is the band scheduled to perform tonight at The Monk 417 S College St., Wilmington, NC. This is the stop for 90’s rock and grunge grooves. Music starts at 9 pm.

From rock and roll to R & B, it’s gonna be a blazing good time. Music is offered from 7-10 pm, but come early for the food and stay late to dance the night away.

The final show I found around the region is that of Hank Barbee, who I caught up with last night in New Bern. Tonight he will bring the Dust Parade Trio to The Osprey Grill Jacksonville.

On the Scene with Tracey Stones

Last night we celebrated many occasions out on the patio at Circa 1810 Restaurant and Bar at the Harvey Mansion. Not only was it Hank Barbee’s birthday, but his sax player Jim Durham was also celebrating his 16th Wedding Anniversary. His family was on the patio as the Dust Parade offered another great show for their New Bern friends and fans to enjoy! On stage for the celebrations were Logan Watson on drums, Matt Henderson on bass, James Durham on saxophones and Hank Barbee offering the vocals and guitar works. They offer a good mix of original music with some familiar cover songs blended into each set. This band always brings a great show. To keep up to date with them, check out their website at

I took my mom out for dinner last night and we ended up at Annabelle’s, located at the front entrance of the New Bern Mall. It was there that I finally got to enjoy the sounds of David Robinson, as he offered the soothing sounds to wash down the wonderful food being served. We both enjoyed the prime rib special and great jazz accompanied each course. This jazz player can be found each month at Live at The City Laundry. He offers the soothing sounds on the first Thursday of each month.

I stopped by Thirsty Bruin Craft Beer & Wine Store, 224 Middle S. New Bern, to enjoy the grooves of the talented and inspiring Bruch Lynch. He had the crowd paying attention to his music offerings from 8-10:30 pm. Lynch is often found about town with his six string. He offers classic rock sounds and country selections that you know. Be sure to check out this acoustic performer soon.

It was awesome to stop in for a few fun songs with Justin Castellano, who was live last night at BrÚtopia. He offers his audiences a great mix of many music styles and he delivers each in a style that is all his own This stringer is a master player and worth checking out. Tonight you can find Castellano live at Trading Post Southern Food & Spirits, 8302 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle, NC. Music plays from 6-9 pm this evening, making for a great choice for dinner and music.

I also enjoyed another fine local rocker with a six string and some talent to move you. Paul Picard was giving up the classic rock grooves to the crowd that filled The Brown Pelican last night. Picard provided the jams from 7-10 pm at the Dirty Bird.
