~ On The Scene With Tracey Stones ~

On Saturday evening I took a pause for the cause and headed to Fall Ball 17. This annual event is hosted by Randy Gary. These fun times are really a way to raise money for The Edgewood Community Developmental School. In all there were seven acts on the bill. I was invited by Second Helping. Hundreds from the surrounding communities came out to enjoy the night of great food cook off’s and awesome music.

When I arrived on site, Brad Benson & The Rebel Armada were crushing the crowd with their spellbinding rock. The Kinston native now calls Cary, NC home and he keeps busy playing solo acoustic and powerhouse trio shows, much like what I saw at Fall Ball 17. To check out his music and to keep up with this busy player please stop by and visit his website.

Following Benson’s set Kaylin Roberson took the microphone and brought down the house with her amazing take on the Star Spangled Banner. Making it even more moving, it was Veteran’s Day still with many Veterans standing among us. God Bless our Veterans and our great land.

Next up, I saw many of my friends finally come together to perform as one unit, Second Helping. This is an awesome tribute band offering the sounds and songs of Lynyrd Skynyrd. The ten piece outfit featuring three guitarists upfront and three female vocalist in the background also features keyboard, drums and bass. and lead singer at the helm. This unit is comprised of players from Lenoir and Craven counties mostly. They offered a great set of the band’s most well-known songs.  To keep up with the band, check out their website

Following another stage turn out Katlyn Roberson returned to the stage, with her full band to bring an energetic and fun set of music. The talented young singer is based out of Raleigh, NC, who offers a cross between pop and country sounds. To learn more about her music and to find her around the area, check her website at

On my way back to New Bern I took a slight detour to check in with my side project. The Adam Hill Band was live at The Red Room and rocking Kinston, NC. The boys were very busy last weekend with three gigs in a 24 hour stretch!  The guys offered a rocking set for the Homeless Vets of Craven County, at the Rocking Relief Benefit at the VFW in New Bern. The band hit the stage at 1 pm for a great showing of rock done right. They made it to town following a long night of rocking Suck Ban Blow in Murrell’s Inlet Friday night.

One thing is for sure, when you offer up so many shows in such a short time, it is hell on the vocal chords. Luckily Hill has many talented friends and throughout the night he offered many of those in-house a shot at the microphone. First up was his cousin, TJ Lanier, next up came the famed singer for Mason Jar Bonfire, Nick Mason (not pictured above, as I went live on Facebook for his country offering.) Also helping out was the vox of J Lane, who crushed it.

Live Music Options for Wednesday

November 15, 2017

The Garage, 110 W 7th St, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has two bands Demon Eye – Demon Eye was unearthed in Raleigh, North Carolina during the Spring of 2012. Shortly thereafter, the band was receiving international recognition for their highly acclaimed songcraft and their stunning live performances. Demon Eye channels the introspective darkness of Pentagram, the heavy grooves of Black Sabbath and the fist-banging shred of early Iron Maiden. They have shared the stage with the likes of Corrosion of Conformity, High on Fire, Spirit Caravan, The Sword, King’s X, Loincloth, YOB, Witch Mountain, Lord Dying, and many more of their heavy brethren. Demon Eye has been featured in Iron Fist UK, Classic Rock Magazine, Premier Guitar Magazine, Terrorizer, Metal Temple, and Destructive music, (the latter of whom claimed the band is “as close to musical perfection as it is humanly possible to get.”)

In early 2014 they released their Soulseller Records debut, “Leave the Light,” which met with excellent worldwide reviews and earned them festival invites to play alongside the best of the best. Three years into their career, they released their second album, titled “Tempora Infernalia,”which brought them to even wider audiences and solidified their fan base within the international metal community at large. Demon Eye remains hellbent on bringing their hook-laden, dark riffin’ songcraft to fans far and wide.
Lords of Mace – Sludgy and southern with a twist of doom on the rock.
