On The Scene With Tracey Stones

On Saturday night I spent most of the night in the company of awesome talent. With giving hearts of many wonderful women, who offered up their talents for a night of raising money and awareness for the Coastal Women’s Shelter via, the 3rd Annual Lily Fest which is presented by GEM Productions. This event featured many great local talents that all played in support of this worthy cause.
While out and about for the night, I got to enjoy dinner with Alisa Mike. Although I missed her opening set, I am sure her voice was as smooth as silk. This hard-working singer is taking some time for herself these next few weeks, as she recovers and heals from knee surgery which she underwent this week. Mike is the front woman for Zen Pirates and plays several solo shows monthly. Expect her return after the holiday season and in the meantime keep her in your prayers.
Carolina Sky offered the folks a fun set of acoustic sounds that filled the room. After a few technical difficulties the girls played their hearts out.
The first act I had the pleasure of hearing was Suzanne Madea, who offered a wonderful set of soothing sounds for the growing crowd that gathered in support of a great cause.
Holly Millar is an awesome, young, up and coming star raised here in New Bern. She delighted the crowd with a powerful set of original music
Next up was the fiercely talented Tracey Brenneman, who also offered a full set of mostly original compositions. Included in her set and closing it out, Brenneman offered her newest song “Me Too”, written weeks ago in response to the #MeToo movement and outpouring.
Throughout the course of the evening there were raffles and prizes given aways. There were many cool items donated, including a house party with local band Bearfoot Monty, jewelry, artistic creations, a home brewery gift set and so much more…
After the first round of raffles were distributed, it was back to the music with Maegan Jackson and IIayali Valdéz. The young duo gave up a great set of music, that they made you feel… as more gathered for this great cause.

The audience was then given a powerful set of original music courtesy of Gabrielle Christie, who has been working hard this past year with Barefoot Monty as vocalist and bass player. It had been a while since we were treated to Christie solo and although she claimed to have jitters it was not evident in her show.
Tiffany Elaine came to the stage next with her set of mostly original music. She had the crowd moving and grooving along. Jimmy Kennedy represented the male population as he took to the stage in support of the Coastal Women’s Shelter, located in New Bern.
Closing out this night of great NC talent on display for an awesome cause was none other than Laura Reed, a powerhouse full of the blues and other mind bending grooves. Sharing the stage with her dear friend and musical sister, Miquela DeLeon, The duo offered a show stopping set that displayed their love of authentic blues in the way of Muddy Waters, as well as great original tracks that offer glimpses into a truly creative soul that is full of talent and awesome presence.
Born in Johannesburg South Africa and with roots that raised her in Nashville, North Carolina has been blessed to have her as their own for some time now. Making a life in around the Raleigh area, Reed is well worth checking out, even if it means road trip. To learn more about her visit her website, buy her music and go out and support this awesome artist. You won’t be disappointed.

Natural Born Leaders // Hip Hop, Gumbo Funk, Soul // 9:30pm
Natural Born Leaders (NBL) is a hip hop and soul prog-rock band based out of Asheville NC. They are fueled by the abstract, socially driven, and smooth and at times gritty, poetry-like vocals from Mike Martinez and hard hitting funky dankness of the rhythm section. They may be directly influenced by bands contrasting in range from The Fugees to Nirvana but their music displays links to everything from jazz to blues, to Afro-Latin and jam music. All blended into a soulful explosion of colors, powerfully painted in the raw form of hip hop and soul.
