On The Scene With Tracey Stones
Last night I started things off by visiting with my friend Big Jim Kohler. We spent some time celebrating him. He was more awake and alert when I dropped by last evening and since he had his eyes open I let him watch his beautiful bride sing to him on my phone. I have lots of video and pics of this couple, so find songs to reach him are easy for this girl. I held the phone as we watched “People Get Ready” and told him that we are going to thank the Lord for hearing his wish of living to see his birthday. Then he watched “Angel From Montgomery” and reminded him about his angel who is missing him. I told him she will never sing so good without him and so he just needs to keep pushing.
I then played “Rather Go Blind” and told him how he can not leave us here with Kathy, as she will drive us all crazy without her guitar man offering his good blues for her outlet. I also played some Son Seals and rested the phone on his pillow as he listened. I held his hand and told him my plan again and he responded when I told him I was going to walk with him. I promised him that while he worked hard on getting healthy, I would work hard on creating a healthy music environment for him to return to and play. He heard every word I said. He is fighting hard and coming through this as I write these words today. But he is not out of the woods yet and prayers are still needed and appreciated.
My first stop for live music after leaving Big Jim was for some Jazz & Blues courtesy of John Van Dyke and his pro jam band! They had the house swinging last night to the sounds of great jazz and soul filling blues. Live at the City Laundry had music fans applauding the good vibes and great music heard from 8-11 pm.
Tonight at The City Laundry come out for a Dance Party. They will have a DJ and be ready to serve all of your favorites. Live at The City Laundry is located at 901 pollock Street, New Bern, NC.
For those seeking live music at Live at The City Laundry come out for supper this Tuesday evening and a thrilling night of great music and fun while raising funds for our local chapter for The National Federation of the Blind. Proceeds from this fun night of music will go to helping the National Federation of the Blind of NC and specifically the local Coastal Carolina Chapter started by Moyers who battles a degenerative disease that offer blindness as part of its diagnosis. Moyers was always a creative spirit who made a living on stage out west many years ago singing with a band and settled in New Bern and brought CoffeeTimes to our attention. She has a tale of survival and a heart of gold. I encourage everyone to come out and learn more while helping her and others right here in our neighborhood. This money helps the group take trips and live fuller lives. Please consider being a part of that good will towards others if you are around town on Tuesday! Since she started losing her sight Moyers has been working on reinventing her life yet again. This charity is good work and her efforts need your support.
Opening the night of music and hostess with the mostest, Cheri Moyer champions this effort and is expanding this second annual event to include many area artists for a great night of song and music Make plans now to come to meet friends and family for supper at The City Laundry for a night of good will and great fun featuring a music line up with The Vintage Duo featuring Moyers and Kyle Whitford on guitar. Followed by a couple of good hearted local stringers, Buck Loy and Bruce Lynch who both will offer up a set of sounds we know and love and closing out the night we enjoy a great set of original music courtesy of Hank Barbee. Doors open at 5 pm music starts at 6 pm and donations and support are encouraged all night long!
It was a singer/songwriter showcase at The Brown Pelican last night thanks to our friends at GEM Productions and the Bernaroo Team who brought local singer Holly Millar to kick the night off and Kate Rhudy out of Raleigh to close it out.
Serving up a late show at The Brown Pelican this evening will be The Hot Buttered Grits. They offer the sounds that will groove you from 10 pm til closing so come out for some great fun and dancing. The Brown Pelican is located at 411 Broad Street, New Bern, NC.
My final stop around town brought me to The Harvey Mansion located at 221 S Front St where Tiffany Elaine and Jimmy Kennedy offered the music to help kick the weekend into gear. Before the storms and lightning came calling, this girl sang her heart out as though she was following dreams . Keep growing girl! When I met her a year ago she had bad stage fright and only knew a few tunes, now she’s rocking through nights entertaining people with country and original offerings. Next week it is her birthday and she is gonna be singing at her own party at Time Out Tavern in Newport on Saturday September 9th. Come out and celebrate with her.
On tap for tonight at The Harvey Mansion Circa 1810 Restaurant & Bar they offer the sweet and fun sounds of the local and talented strummer Wick Wickline on the patio and under the tent from 8 – 11 pm.
They deliver live and local music on the patio three nights each week. You can enjoy live music every Friday and Saturday evening from 8-11 pm and on Sunday evening you can join them for dinner and live music on the patio from 5-8 pm. On the patio tomorrow with his big heart will be Dan Jam Phillips who will be Jamming For Jim and collecting your tips for the Kohler Family to help with immediate needs.
