On The Scene With Tracey Stones

The pics above are from my rounds last weekend when I ran into both¬†James Ford, and Freddie Scungio. The two play out solo and add rhythm fillers to bands like Big Jim Kohler Blues Band and others. Recently the two paired up with a couple of other players including Billy Mobley, and Sean Canary ¬†to form New Bern’s own Limited Engagement!! Tonight the band will be making their New Bern Debut at The Brown Pelican located at 411 Broad Street, New Bern, NC. Music starts tonight at 8 pm.

It will be interesting to hear this project as they make their way on to the scene. Ford who is leading the way in this project offers a wide range of styles and flavors all his music selections to his own taste which always works nicely. Come support new music. There is no admission for the show but tips are always appreciated for the band.

I have run into local singer and stringer, Arlin Tart on several occasions over the past few weeks. This talented player brings you the fun sounds of rock, blues, pop and funk to Live at The City Laundry tonight. There is a $7.00 music charge payable at the door. The music starts at 7:30 pm. If you have not heard them yet, you are in for a good time and memorable night that might include dancing! Joining Tart on stage tonight will be the rhythm support of Andrew Maune, and Miguel Delima.
Live at The City Laundry offers a new light menu for those looking to dine during this show. My favorite selection is the cheese board. I have had both varieties and enjoy every bit of the unique dish. If you have not yet taken a trip down to see the place, tonight is a great night to try it. They are located at 901 Pollock St., New Bern, NC

Located at , located at 402 S Front St., New Bern, NC. Local player, Ed Prophet will be offering the sounds that soothe you and rock you.  Come out and shake a leg and grab a drink.

Just across the bridge and over the river we stop at¬†Br√útpia¬†located at 1201 Highway 70 East, New Bern, That is where we find the bluesy acoustic offerings of B&B who are often found on guitar and bass with¬†Cuz’n Kirk’s Blues Band.

Bon¬†on guitar and vocals and Bill on bass and vocals, the duo offers their talent from 7-10 pm. Based out of the Greenville Area, I caught the band last year at¬†Backwater Jack’s Tiki Bar & Grill¬†and have been looking for opportunities to bring them to our area. Tonight this duo will give you a fine sample of the bands flavor. This show is free but remember tips are always appreciated.

Look for the full band to play here in town this August. I will bring you more details on that event as we get closer to the heat of the Summer.

Speaking of the amazing Adam Hill, he brought his band to Winston-Salem last weekend to compete in a battle of the bands which took place at Ted’s Kickin’ Chicken.¬†On the line for the winners of this event was $500 cash plus an opportunity to headline Camel City Bike Fest 2017 taking place in Winston-Salem on Saturday September 9, 2017. More details about this event will be given as the time approaches but riders, mark your calendars for this end of Summer event!

So many great things are happening with this band unit. Not only are they getting tighter with each gig but opportunities are presenting themselves and the band is taking each and every one. Recently bassman Gordy George had an offer to build a custom bass and last week he broke it in at the battle.

Checking things out to the North of New Bern I also found a few good picks for those in the Greenville/Winterville/Ayden area. I also know of a couple of things going on in Washington and that area of the map.

So without further ado I invite you to stop out to meet my friends at County Line Bar & Grill. Ed Daughtry & Trisha Mower recently took over the establishment, gave it a new name, new coat of paint, fixed up the bathrooms and made it more their own. They offer pool league and competitions and they are great supporters of. Located at 9527 Highway 903 N, Ayden, NC they offer the rocking country sounds of Caliber .45.

This county band hails from the Farmville region and look forward to boot scooting with you tonight from 10 pm til 2 am. The cost is usually $10 per person or $15 per couple. Sounds like a money-saving reason to call that date tonight!

Check out their band and get to know them via page on Facebook  then head out and have a listen to

Cruising Along The Coast

Here is an idea for folks along the coast. Head down the trail to Indian Beach and stop by Frank & Clara’s Restaurant located at 1440 Salter Path Rd., Indian Beach NC. This fun party band hails from the New Bern area and offers a great mix of party tunes to keep the crowd rocking and moving all night long. They get the party started at 9:30 pm and rock you til 1:30 am.

For folks motoring over the causeway and heading to Morehead City, you can rock on the deck with The Roman Sams tonight who will be live off the ocean at Southern Salt Restaurant. Rob Lightner & Scott Shelby will be rocking the crowd at Royal James Cafe located at 117 Turner St., Beaufort, NC. They get the party started at 9 pm and carry you into the next day with their fun grooves. They both have merchandise to look at and buy, so be sure to support these traveling players visiting our area from PA.

I found a couple of my favorite players will be hanging around and doing their things tonight in Swansboro, NC.

First we find the talented and fun Justin Castellano live tonight at Bake Bottle & Brew located at 147 N Front St., Swansboro, NC. He delivers his second performance of the day from 6-9 pm.

The other fun and fascinating player that I found in the neighborhood tonight is the talented Hank Barbee who will be live at Church Street Deli, located on Church Street in Swansboro and just a hop skip and a jump from Castellano. His show starts at 7 pm and he grooves ya through supper til 10 pm.

My advice is to take the time to listen to both of these players. You will not be disappointed. They are both extremely skilled players and have a lot of talent to share.

Checking out the seen a little further south I have a couple more shows to share before I wrap it up yet again! First for those in need of a blues fix, be sure to stop at Hell’s Kitchen tonight in Wilmington, NC to catch the sounds of Snake Malone & The Black Cat Bone. He gives up the grooves from 9:30 pm til 1:30 am.

I have this cat on my radar and look forward to catching a show soon. He hails from the Wilmington area and is a part of the Cape Fear Blues Society. For those looking for real deal blues tonight, this is your stop at the coast!
