Last weekend was action packed around the neighborhood and due to family fun, like high school graduation, it seemed fine to me to stick close to home. I love our little big town of New Bern NC
We ended the week with ArtWalk/artCRAWL which is an event that takes place the second Friday of each month. The overall concept is celebrating its eleventh year and it has grown in popularity in recent years, with more artists and art groups forming in and around town. We have a lot to show off and it is always exciting to meet the crafters and painters, while enjoying the music.
If you have not come to New Bern for Artwalk/artCRAWL yet, we look forward to seeing you this Summer. Above are photos from last week’s rounds throughout New Bern. I ran into many artists, crafters, writers and musicians last week including a Marine Artist Haley Ann who spends time painting when not serving our country. She is currently seeking ways of getting her works out there. Pictured above sitting at the table with canvas in hand, she offers a variety of artwork but my favorite are her military life paintings.
To tell the tale of music in the city is to tell you about George Oliver and his family’s band Strung Together A very spiritually moving band that includes the budding talents of his two young daughters and his beautiful wife as noted in the photo below.
They play a variety of instruments and as their name implies they are Strung Together musically and it is wonderful to see. I believe a family that plays together stays together. Last week they offered their music for all who visited Isaac Taylor Garden, located on Craven St. in downtown New Bern.
To keep up to date and find out where they are playing, be sure to visit to their website at www.strungtogetherband.com
I found Big Jim Kohler and he was joined by Matt Miller on harmonica and for a brief while, his lovely wife Kathleen as he played outside the Black Cat Shoppe on Middle Street from 5-8 PM.
