~ Gettin’ Down Around Town, New Bern, NC ~
The second Friday of each month marks the celebration of Artist throughout New Bern with another installment of ArtWalk. This fun monthly event is celebrating it’s 11th year of bringing artwork to the forefront of the community.
One of the great musical traditions that has been established in recent months is Dan Jam, live during ArtWalk at The Brown Pelican, located at 411 Broad St., New Bern, NC. Dan welcomes players to the forefront to jam with his band from 5 pm-8 pm. So stop in have a cold beverage and enjoy the great jams.
Following Dan Jam, The Brown Pelican welcomes the artistic stylings of Justin Castellano who will be working the room from 8 pm-11 pm this evening. This player is classically trained and plays that acoustic guitar like no one else I know. It’s fun to watch him draw the crowd in and captivate them with music. He doesn’t make it around this way often but he is here tonight, so be sure to check him out when you can!
Bruce Lynch will be the featured performer at Bear Town Market this evening from 7-10 pm. This show is free. BTM is located at 402 S Front St., New Bern, NC. Lynch knows a great selection of familiar favorites, to keep you moving and grooving all night long!
Live tonight at The Thirsty Bruin, located at 224 Middle St., New Bern, NC, they will be hosting the music of Buck Loy, another local talent that can keep you locked into the groove from 8 pm – 10:30 pm.
Fools Rush In is another standard offering following ArtWalk. For those that like the swing and jazz sounds from long ago, this is the gig for you. So pack up the wine or beer and head down to The Rvertowne Ball Room, located at 305 Pollock St, New Bern, NC. The cost for this great show featuring awesome sounds and a great room for dancing is just $10 at the door. Music starts at 8 pm and the show lasts til 11 pm
Speaking of Jazz music, you can get another dose over at The City Laundry, located at 901 Pollock St., NC. They are featuring Music After ArtWalk with Casablanca. Another local band with great talents. This trio gets the music started at 8 pm and there is a $7.00 music charge at the door. For more details on the band I copied this from a recent e-mail.
Jazz Classics, Bossa Nova and Middle Eastern. “Casablanca will take you on a musical magic carpet ride to destinations both familiar and exotic,” New Bern Magazine. The sound of Casablanca is an exotic mix, as if gypsy jazz musicians from Paris were joined by local Moroccan players. Tom Spellman is Casablanca’s guitarist, playing both nylon-stringed classical guitar and steel string guitar. Glenn Druhot plays drum set, djembe, bongos and other percussion instruments. Simon Spalding plays violin, guitar and oud, the fretless lute of the Orient. All three members of Casablanca are instructors in the teaching studio of Fuller’s Music House in New Bern.
8pm 7.00 Cover charge

Live tonight at Muddy Creek Music Hal,l located at 5455 Bethania Rd., Winston-Salem, NC, it is the music of CandelFirth, a duo known for their exploration of Celtic music. Here are more details about the duo:
CandelFirth is a musical duo that explores traditional Celtic music through unique rhythms, arrangements and expressions. Randel Candelaria (fiddle, guitar, recorder, bodhran & octave mandolin) has been playing Celtic music for over 30 years with a number of bands including Naomi’s Fancy (having the distinction of performing for a US presidential visit) and the Celthix (which opened up for the Tannahill Weavers on two evenings), and has recently played in pubs across Ireland including sessions with Friar’s Green and the legendary Irish group De Danann. Susie Firth Cooper owns and has played on a variety of harps for over 20 years and performs on flute, penny whistle, djembe and Native American flutes. She has been a solo artist for years and has performed most recently with the band Ashgrove. Her love for Celtic music has extended for the past 30 years or more. Both have joined together to bring their unique approaches and dedication of the music of the British Isles in a blended and dynamic presentation reflecting their appreciation and fondness for the Celtic musical tradition.

The band’s new album, “Theme for a Celebration” to drop February 2017! The force is strong with Empire Strikes Brass. With the capability to perform as a 7-9 piece lineup, add DJ Push/Pull for an electronic set, or take you to New Orleans by transforming into a true second line parade, ESB’s versatility allows them to adapt to virtually any party setting imaginable. The band’s new upcoming debut album titled “Theme for A Celebration” represents their love for brass instrumentation within a diverse array of musical genres. The group is comprised of veteran musicians who have honed their skills with, and been regular members of acts such as; Squirrel Nut Zippers, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and Big Ol’ Nasty Get Down. As a sit in horn section, Empire Strikes Brass have been featured in collaborations with many acclaimed artists, including; Beats Antique, Warren Haynes, Andy Frasco, Rubble Bucket, Roosevelt Collier, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, and The Fritz, to name a few. The energy wielded by Empire Strikes Brass is more than simple Jedi mind tricks, it’s a full force experience that will take you on a ride to the dark side and back!
