This is an open invitation for all blues artists, venues, festivals and enthusiasts to connect with me, so that we can connect with more people. I have been a blues enthusiast since finding rock music. Rock n roll lead me to the blues and my soul settled deep in its roots and rich history. I admire and love the music, I respect its history and the feeling evoked while the music plays.
FOLKS Journal is new publication based in New Bern, NC, that is committed to six issues annually. The magazine made its debut online on March 1, 2018 and it is circulating around town as I type this. The next issue will expand as far as including me as a staff writer. When I was asked to contribute, it only took me a minute to figure out what I’d like to give. I am happy to shine a light on the blues, so that we can all learn of the many cool artists around NC in support of Keeping the Blues Alive. That is a movement that has been near and dear to me, since I started writing professionally 22 years ago.
If you are a blues artist performing in NC please send me your dates, invite me to your shows, and help me spread your news. If you are a venue supporting our area blues artists and the society in your area, please share your events and invite me out to be a part of capturing the fun. The blues are an awesome celebration and I can’t wait to celebrate FOLKS, like you in FOLKS Journal soon.

I first met Tiffany Elaine just about three years ago, after walking into the weekly open mic night at The Brown Pelican. It was a Thursday night, not many were in the room, but I went live and I took some pictures of the budding talent and it left her dreaming. She is a good example of why I do what I do! I think musicians and artists deserve to be heard and appreciated for their work.
Since that day this girl dreamed of going to Nashville and worked her way to recording there last year. She is keeping busy along the Crystal Coast and beyond, uniting musicians at weekly open mic nights in many locations from Jacksonville to Morehead City. She stays busy promoting music in Beaufort and plays anywhere that welcomes her.
The best way to keep up with her good work in uniting the area music makers, is to follow her on Facebook. Her music page is found by following this link:
When I caught up with Tiffany at one of her many open mic nights, it was at Promise Land Market. This was the first time I have been to the cool little brew store and bar, with awesome pizza, friendly staff and a kind heart for supporting local artists.
I got to enjoy many local artists from several areas. I saw players from New Bern, Jacksonville and many from the coast. It was such an awesome vibe. I hope you can make it out to one of the next events she hosts here. You can mark your calendar now for Wednesday, March 21.
For those that wish to be a part of this girl’s open mic madness each and every week, be sure to check in with her this week in Jacksonville, NC. Wednesday at North Star Cafe and in Newport, NC,on Thursday at Shortway Brewing Co.. She welcomes all players to the stage and is really the hostess with the most for local music makers.
Since we are on the subject of open mic nights, let’s kick things off with one in the Raleigh area. I found this at Pourworks Beer and Wine Shop.

Love Canon will be rocking the stage at the Red Room, 220 N Herritage St., Kinston, NC. They have a unique sound and generate fun with their great beats. Here is what I learned from their Website:
“Love Canon doesn’t cover the music of the ’80s as much as kidnap it and take it on a bluegrass-tinged joyride. It’s a general rule of American culture that it takes 20-40 years for a decade to shed its stale stench and get its groove back. There’s no shortage of clever musical re-enactors giving the first generation of MTV an ironic makeover: a fool’s errand, given that the music already was soaked in postmodern irony.
By contrast, Love Canon refreshes and extends the originals with affectionate humor and effortless virtuosity. The players — including Old School Freight Train’s Jesse Harper and Darrell Muller, Virginia Commonwealth University guitar and banjo master Adam Larrabee, Mandolin Virtuoso Andy Thacker, and dobro Jedi Jay Starling — add layers of depth to the still-appealing pop hooks.”
