On the Scene With Tracey Stones
There was a host of delightfully different things in the world of music since we last gathered here. I can’t wait to tell you about them all.
On Saturday evening I popped into BrÛttopia, 1202 Highway 70 East, New Bern, to check out Common Interests. They came as a trio last week, but this band like many, comes out as budget allows. Sometimes you can find Irish Robinson and Delancy Loftus chilling as an unplugged duo. Last week they came as a three-piece with Jared Cain joining in and offering the percussions. When I first had them in New Bern, under the tent at The Harvey Mansion, the whole band came.
The Crystal Coast-based band is actually a fusion folk quartet based in Morehead City. Bassman, Skylar Lehman is also the band’s manager. If you are looking for a fun and professional band that is chill to hang out with, contact Common Interests today. If nothing else, check out their page on Facebook and give it a Like while you are there!
Common Interests
This weekend you can catch Delancy and Irish at Promise Land Market, 909B Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC, tomorrow evening from 8:30 until 11:30 pm. They will be rocking the Irish folk tunes to get you primed for next weekend. That is when you can catch another duo from this union, when Robinson and Cain play at BrÜtopia next Saturday from 7-10 pm. Check out the green beer and fun songs.

My next stop along highway 70 East Saturday night was at Jean’s Place, 330 E Main St, Havelock, NC, to check in with fun time country rocker David Lee Jones. The award-winning country artist brought his talented band to rock the crowd.
The country singer based out of Washington, NC is spending the weekend performing in Alexandria Va. with his band.

On Sunday, there was a benefit that was held at a private residence on Trent Road in New Bern. Opening the night of festivities was local singer and stringer, Randy Moore. Following his acoustic performance, the dance team known as Radiance Aglow performed two sets of magnificent dance routines.
Heather Bunn offered hula and fire dancing, Kaitlyn gave us a great show of belly dancing and Katie Spades provided many firey displays of native fire dancing. This dance company travels and performs for festivals and private occasions.
I caught their show when they rallied for Kelly, a man who was cycling from Washington DC to California. They helped him and Journey of Hope, reach the goal for Kelly to ride with his message of HOPE.
To learn more about this dance company and to how hire them for your next function, check out their Facebook Page and give them a thumbs up or a like!

The fun and funky Asheville based band Dr. Bacon blends funk, fusion, rock, and grunge together for a fresh and fiery sound, that sizzles much like the band name should! Dr. Bacon visited us in New Bern, NC this past week, when they performed at Live at the City Laundry for Local Band Tuesday, which is now being presented by Folks Journal and is out now for your reading pleasure!
It was a fun night that opened with New Bern’s newest folk-infused rock act, Spaghetti taking the stage from 8-9 pm, for a solid set of original tunes.
Following their show, the seven-piece and featuring horns, fiddles, harmonica, guitars, bass and drums offered an intense set of fun music for all to enjoy! The traveling band has been making a name for themselves for a few years now and with more appearances on the East Coast, it is a win for the whole state.

The Concert in the Dark, which was first held in 2015, has become a popular event on the Grahamstown music calendar.
The audience literally listens to the music in the dark. A comment from an audience member at a previous concert: ‘With the music playing from on high and behind, I felt as awed as a novice monk upon entering an ancient abbey.’
The programme will feature chamber music by composers from the Classical era to the 21st Century performed by Kingswood College teachers and pupils.
All welcome. Entry is by donation with all funds going to the St. John’s Eye Clinic.
