Behind the Scenes with Tracey Stones
Bernaroo Music & Arts Festival
Planning & Development Updates
GEM Productions partner Bailey Evans hosted another meeting for the Bernaroo Music and Arts Festival which is coming to New Bern on Friday, July 20 – Sunday, July 22, 2018.
NCMZ.LIVE and Tracey Stones Productions is partnering with GEM Productions to assist in this massive community music event. In the past several weeks we finalized plans for sponsorship packages and set rates for vendors as well. Our team is ready to come ask for your support and I hope you will consider the opportunities to be a part of such a great event.
This is a great opportunity for Community Businesses and Artisan Vendors, we also set a reasonable rate for non-profits and welcome them to be a part of this fun music filled weekend festival. Not only will there be the main stage in town; but music being hosted by GEM Productions in selected venues throughout town and throughout the weekend.
Getting involved in this Festival is a great way of telling people that you support the Arts in your community. The money we raise helps us put together a better show for the community. They use these funds generated through sponsorship to pay the artist and secure production costs as well as renting the venue for the main stage. This year the event will be held at The Farmer’s Market on S. Front St, New Bern, NC.
2018 marks year six for this, the flagship event, for the music promotions company based in New Bern, NC. For the first five years, this music-loving team has organized this event and brought it to the people without asking for much help. As it has grown with popularity and the team has proven themselves as a huge asset to the community, they are kicking things up a notch and asking you to be a part of the event as well.
One thing to keep in mind, if you are signing up to be a vendor, consider becoming a Friend of the Festival Sponsor for an additional $100 to be included in our advertising campaign.
Attached are the two videos we put together last week, which tell you about the Sponsorship and Vendor Opportunities being offered by GEM Productions for this year’s Festival.
In the coming weeks, I will be announcing the line up for the Battle of the Bands which is going to be held on March 31, 2018, at The Brown Pelican. As it looks now, there are tentatively five bands competing for the opening spot at Bernaroo Music & Arts Festival on Friday, July 20, 2018.

FOLKS Journal Launches New Arts Magazine
Great news for those on the scene making music, acting, creating, painting, sculpting and sharing stories with the launching of a new arts magazine. Folks Journal debuted online yesterday and tangible copies will be available to behold and admire next week.
The idea was inspired by Leigh-Ann Sullivan who has an extensive background creating websites and other “zines.” When she mentioned to her friend Meg Wetherington who was serving her a drink at The Brown Pelican, “You know what this town needs, a music and art magazine.” A few days later Meg asked her friend if she was serious and said she would love to help. For those who have missed out on knowing Meg, she is a force of knowledge and creative fire. It was all the publisher needed to get the ball rolling.
I encourage all of my readers to check out what these ladies have started. I am so excited about this new endeavor, I asked to be a part of the process. Look for Boogie n Blues, by yours truly, Tracey Stones in the next issue; as I bring back to life my music column of blues music news. The intent will be to report on the news of all our local blues societies in the state.
The other thing I signed up to help this team dynamo with is selling advertising. Here again, this is a great way to reach new customers while making the bold statement of “I support the Arts in my Community.” The advertising rates are affordable and I would love to meet with you to discuss a good size and layout for your local business.
You can reach me at 318-789-6929 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to discussing all that Folks Journal offers Folks like me and you.

NCMZ.LIVE Gets Recognized for Community Service
It’s hard to believe sometimes, that this is happening but on weeks like say that I am grateful to God for all he has given me. It’s been enough to make my dreams come true. Given that reality, I want to thank my readers for making it happen.
This week it was noted that my work in writing the blog is benefiting the community in such a way that my friend Laura Gammons decided to nominate me for 52 Faces of Community.
What a great honor and I want to tell you how I know God’s hand is here holding me on my journey. Part of this great honor is that I get to select a non-profit in our community to benefit from a full-page, full-color ad in the Sun Journal to help champion their work.
Before I got back to being a musicians advocate in 2015, I was something else. I was a rape victim who survived a brutal night of torture at the hands of a sick individual on a cold November night in New Jersey. Along the road to recovery, I found Promise Place here in New Bern NC. It was 2005 and back then it was the Coalition for Women and Families. I walked in still broken and lost and in need of support and therapy.
After a few years, I was sitting on the board of the non-profit. After years of service and volunteer work, I accepted the vote for President in August 2014. It seemed an honor. Not long after I came to New Bern; it was there, I learned how to thrive. I was always glad to offer my services to this organization.
I do not make any part of my story a secret. What happened to me on November 2, 2001, was the most hurtful and hateful time I ever spent in anyone’s company and a jury of our peers let the man walk free on February 5, 2004.
Along the path, I wanted to give up and Lord knows I broke down and I cried. But with faith in God and love of family, I fought through the hardest days and became victorious in claiming my life again. No part of the journey is easy to talk about, but the one thing that has always pulled me through the pain and hard times was music.
Music has always been a part of my journey. It wasn’t long after becoming President of Promise Place that I noted the overwhelming emotions that walked with that leadership role. Being a survivor of this horrible crime, leaves one feeling lost, even after you find your life’s work in advocating for rape victims.
It seemed rather victorious to me that on Monday, February 26, 2018 the Sun Journal ran the feature story on me, and it highlighted my work with this blog and my work with Promise Place. As part of the honor, I selected Promise Place as the charity to benefit. Nothing seems more empowering and inspiring and God’s timing was perfect as always.
Now the irony and the justice for all, February 26 was also my rapist’s birthday. Thanks be to God for reshaping the hard days and showing me the light always. Nothing is more empowering than reclaiming my life and helping victims and being recognized for my work on such a day!
