I checked in with The Oblations last weekend. This duo featuring Daniel Fields offering vocals & guitars and music brother, Joe MacPhail. giving up his share of vocals, drums, keyboards. They were playing at BrewMasters in Goldsboro, NC
For those looking for a great beer store, come by and stay for the music. The Oblations are a North Carolina roots blues funk rock band, with original material that puts emphasis on originality, I love the jams they deliver. The duo has a CD available for purchase at shows and they can be found on the web as well.
If you like blues inspired funk jams, this is a fun band to get to know. They keep busy on the west side and have been making a name for themselves in the in the midrange and eastern side of the state as well.
I was introduced to their sound thanks to the work of GEM Productions, bringing new talent into New Bern. The band played at the Brown Pelican a few months ago, when I first purchased their disc.
They will be returning to town before long, as we are in negotiations for an April date for the duo, at Circa 1810 Bar at the Harvey Mansion. Keep it here for updates on those details. To keep up with the band, give their Facebook page a like:
Following the Oblations, I headed to Seven Springs and checked in with Adam Hill, who was playing acoustic at Crossroads Grill & Bar, located on Highway 55 West. I ran into owner Matt Price who stayed busy throughout the night. The grill offers great burgers and the bar has the cold beer ready to serve.

Blues fans around the Charlotte area are in for a treat with Doyle Bramhall II, live this evening at The Neighborhood Theater. Some tickets remain for this show. The event opens doors at 7 pm with music starting at 8 pm.
Here is more on this amazing blues talent:
“Watching Doyle Bramhall II is like watching a chef at work. All the ingredients are there, but he uses a well-routined band instead of attendant kitchen staff to make magical things happen.
They say things are bigger in Texas, and in Bramhall’s case, it’s all about exploring a big sonic landscape in a meeting of blues, spirituality and an inclusive philosophy. The latter reflects his own feelings which he shares in a musical driven emotional arc that connects the personal to the universal.
Bramhall aims for celestial bliss as he embraces enveloping spacey grooves, haunting tones, and deep grooves.
He demands patience, understanding and is not given to saying much, but when he sculpts his solos, his spiritual bent sounds so essential in such unsettling times.”
Originally built as a movie theater in 1945 (Astor Theatre) closed in the late 70s, Neighborhood Theatre underwent restoration in 1997 and was converted into a live performance venue.
