On Saturday afternoon the small harbor town of Oriental, NC hosted their Annual Christmas Parade and following that event, one of the new businesses in town, New Village Brewery, located at 702 Broad St. Oriental, NC, offered an after party that raised money for Pamlico Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
Opening the entertainment at the after party was New Bern’s own Dan Jam Phillips, who offered a full two hours of classic rock to the crowd, as they filled their plates and bellies full with the BBQ and sides that were most delicious. The venue poured beer throughout the day and night, and offer $1.00 on every pint poured for PAWS.
Following Dan Jam, folks were served some Hot Buttered Grits that helped to warm souls as toes started tapping and hips started shaking. The Grits are another New Bern based outfit, that offers many jams for music lovers that like to groove. They are a fun five piece band with lots of strings and groove things. There was a good sized crowd that braved the cold last Saturday, to enjoy The Grits as they offered the music to warm souls and delight music fans.
After filling up on some Grits, I got back on the music bus and came to town to check in with a familiar favorite coming back on the scene. The band known as Peace Soldier was live at The Brown Pelican, 411 Broad St., New Bern, NC. These guys offer the best in classic rock. The songs you love from the 60’s and 70’s, but that is not all. They are creative forces who enjoy music so expect some original music from the boy in the year ahead. They will be ringing in the new year with fans and good friends at The Harvey Mansion, with a full band set from 8-11 pm and acoustic celebration to carry us into the New Year on the patio with LIVE MUSIC. I hope you come to be a part of that celebration all year next year! To keep up with the band and all their news and dates check them out at:
It was country music weekend at the Circa 1810 Bar & Restaurant at the Harvey Mansion, 221 S Front St. New Bern, NC, where they welcomed the cold weather and hot country sounds with Caliber .45 on Saturday night, a stripped down acoustic version of Steel County Express, who played inside the bar on Sunday evening. Though I missed that show, I was able to meet the players from Caliber .45, who brought some serious music fans, bundled in blankets and braving the cold to hear their favorite sounds…that was truly heartwarming. This four piece outfit has roots around NC with the home base of Farmville, NC. They are a rocking country band that offers a professional show. They have been working steady for folks all around NC for nearly three years and they enjoy every minute of the show. Check them out on Reverbnation by following this link:

Currently the band is booking 2018 and they are interested in traveling to new areas. They are available for festivals and community events, special occasions where all things rock works. They offer a great show with good sound and lights. This trio is a close group of friends from New Bern, who are students of music that teach many around town.
