Live Music Options for Saturday, October 15, 2016

Around the Region:

Starting things out around the Western part of our beautiful state we find some blues done right at Finnigan’s Wake located at 620 North Trade St., Winston-Salem, NC. Tonight they feature the sounds of Abe Reid & The Spike Drivers. Kicking things off will be the grooves of Peter May. Music starts at 8 pm and they play til midnight!

Daryl Lucas returns to the stage as a newlywed stringer. I say, make him feel welcome as he debuts his new life on a new stage. Check him out at The Mad Boar  located at 111 River Village Pl, Wallace, NC. Music starts at 8 he’ll have ya grooving til 11 pm.

Looking to our North, the most cozy sound will be warming the air at AJ McMurphy’s located at 1914 Turnberry Dr., Greenville, NC. That is where you can dig on some traditional blues and roots grooving rock by way of Built For Comfort Band.  They rock the room from 9 pm til the midnight hour.

Heading to the coast? On your way you can enjoy the great tastes of The 35th Annual Havelock Chili Festival. On the stage in Walter B Jones Park  you can rock to the country duo out of SteelTown America (Steelers Nation), Pittsburgh, PA;  known for their work with SteelTown Cowboy:

They get things rocking at 1:30 pm and concluding their performance at the Festival they are packing up and heading for the coast, so we might as well let them take us there…

Tonight you can dig on the grooves of Shelby Lightner Duo live at the Royal James Cafe. They will be live from 9 pm til 1 am for you to dance and enjoy. Royal James has great burgers, awesome service and great live music, stop in and enjoy. Located at 117 Turner St., Beaufort, NC, it is easy to get to and worth the trip.

Just over the bridge in Morehead City my friend of many eclectic instruments Simon Spalding let me know about his gig at Infusion Cafe located at 1012 Arendell St., Morehead City. Here is what I learned:

“I’m performing Russian and Ukrainian music at The Infusion Cafe in Morehead City! It promises to be great fun…. Here’s how my hosts describe it:

Join us for this fantastic journey. Feast on traditional food. Be surrounded by the soulful old world music of the region… the longing voice of a violin accompanied by soulful cello, a djembe heartbeat, and fiery guitar rhythms & harmonies!
Let our gypsy band lead you on this fantastic journey. Violinist and domra-player Simon Spalding and cellist Erin Butcher, guitarist Kurt Petersen and percussionist Todd Hart will combine their talents to paint a musical picture to spark the imagination and enchant the ear, taking us on a musical adventure we wont soon forget.
What a perfect way to spend an October evening!
This night of traditional gypsy music and Romanian food will surely to be night to remember!

Seating is limited. Tickets required. 252-240-2800.

There are a few shows going on in Swansboro that I heard about so let’s wander around there for a bit.

Wild Honey will be live at Church Street Deli located at 105 W Church St., Swansboro. They will be jamming from 7-10 pm. This is a great pick for dinner and dancing kids. They are a familiar favorite on the Swansboro scene and tonight is the night you can enjoy their music and making memories!

Just around the corner you can check out The Aqoostics live at The Icehouse Waterfront Restaurant. This fun duo will be in the lounge from 9 pm til they close the joint down. I say that like this is some hole it the wall. No sir, this is a wonderful place for a date night, offering some savory dishes and great service, I love how they support live music every Wednesday and Saturday nights. They are located at 103 W Moore St., Swansboro.

Heading out highway 24 and over the bridge you can check out the great rocking grooves of New Bern’s own Zen Pirates live from 10 pm til 1 am on stage at The E-Club  located at 8102 Emerald Dr., Emerald Isle, NC. These guys and this girl know how to show every crowd a rocking good time.

Around Town, New Bern:

Speaking of New Bern we might as well bring it right back around to home as I get ready to head out the door to fill the roll out of the 8th Annual Breast Cancer Ride and Benefit going down at Harley Davidson of New Bern located at 1603 Highway 70 East, New Bern. Registration starts at 9 am. Kickstands up at 11, back to the barn at 12:30 for lunch, prizes and live music by Solid Ground. Let’s come together and make this event memorable by bringing lots of love and money to our local Journey of Hope.

All cancer sucks, but October is all about the Booooobs, so let’s rally at this event today and make a big difference.

My heart gets going just thinking about the incredible talent that is rolling into town. If you have not caught SOLID GROUND you have two opportunities to do so today and tonight New Bern peeps!!!! They welcome in the riders from 12:30-3 pm at Harley Davidson of New Bern. Following dinner at my ranch the band will be heading over to The Brown Pelican located at 411 Broad St., New Bern, NC.

This four piece has a rhythm section from Jacksoneville and powerhouse singer from Pamlico County and an amazing guitar man leading the way from Pink Hill. They stay busy all around our region, but today and tonight they are all your New Bern…LET’S DANCE!
