A Big Thanks to You for Giving Me a Blogging Life:

This whole thing happened when I started to follow my heart. Things were slow at work and for a brief second, I thought about getting a part time job. Not really be one to work well with others, I figured I’d created my own part time position in the music industry, doing what I used to do many years ago, only this time, creating my own entity.

Here is the thing; if the music is in you, you should let it out. I don’t pretend to be a player, I can’t play a lick! But my appreciation for music came around not long after seeing Stevie Ray Vaughan, for the first of seven times in total, back in the Summer of 1984. By the Summer of ’86 I was working with my first band. I was 17 and enthusiastic to say the least. When I was 18, I met a life long friend who offered a second band that needed promotions and dates. At 21 I met a Rolling Stones Tribute Band that hired me for makeup and promotions. After a brief intermission, at 25 I met the most incredible guitar player and went full throttle back into the band business while I was a published writer. The only reason I left him and the music business for good in 2005 was to raise our son, far removed from the merry-go-round of his band life!

Many years later, history is repeating itself as the guitar players are pulling me right back into the scene. Nothing inspires this girl more than a good guitar groove. I am fine tuned to rock and blues licks and I can get down with some honky tonk too! I am so grateful and amazed more everyday by all of these players!

You fill me with inspiration. This is why I am doing what I do! So in this season of reflection and giving thanks, I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to you for all your help in keeping this site filled with useful information for readers and music lovers! I appreciate all the musicians and venues alike, that take the time to communicate and share their events with me. Together we are reaching readers, connecting people with live music.and making them dance!

Around the Region~

It is the end of a rockin era in Raleigh this Saturday with Sidewinder finishing things out at Southland Ballroom located at 614 N West St., Raleigh, NC. Doors open at 9 pm music starts at 10 pm.

Join the Sidewinder Family as we say “Farewell to Southland” It has been a Blast!

“Ladies and gentlemen, The East Coast’s Premiere Rock and Roll Powerhouse – Sidewinder!”

Spoken by long-time band emcee Bono, this phrase marked the start of literally thousands of Sidewinder shows throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The band was formed in Wilmington, N.C. during the late ‘70s. Founding member Ronnie Brothers was the first guitarist, and later managed the band after leaving the stage. Sidewinder went through numerous personnel changes during the roughly 16- year run, but the direction was always the same – deliver a high quality rock and roll concert with state-of-the-art production, polished showmanship, and musical excellence.

The Roman Sam’s  have a show this Saturday at Drifter’s located at 208 W Clay Street, Mebane, NC. This classic rock cover band is a hard hitting powerhouse that will rock you til you drop. Check them out tonight if you are in the area. They rock the room from 9:30 pm til 2:00 am.

You can enjoy the rocking country sounds of Mason Jar Bonfire this Saturday when they set up shop at The Red Room located at 220 N Heritage St., Kinston NC. There is a music charge at the door and music starts at 10 pm and rock on until 2 am.

Looking around to the North you can find Steel County Express rocking The Grey Goose  located at Highway 903 N in Ayden, NC. They will be giving up their brand of modern country selections from 9 pm til the midnight hour.

Ed Prophet will be giving up his great sounds at Winslow’s Deli this Saturday evening from 8:30 til 11:30 pm. Located 120 W 5th St. Greenville, NC, this makes for a great stop to grab a bite while being rock with great music.

Looking just to the south we wrap things up where I kicked things off this long weekend. Gene Gregory  has a show this Saturday evening from 9 pm til 12 am at Nick’s Blacksheep Tavern located at 1140 Old Maplehurst Road, Jacksonville, NC. I had a great time when I was out the other night. Owner Nick Nichols opened the place this past February and looks forward to bringing in more live local music. Stop in and check it out this week if you are out shopping in Jacksonville on Saturday!

That’s a Wrap, Let’s Dance!

Well that is a wrap on where you can find the live music around the state in the days ahead. Whatever you pick, please take kindness with you. Free music is never free so please pay it forward during the holiday season and tip the players well. When you add up their time invested and subtract the money they are paid, there is a deficit and you can help bridge that gap and throw some inspiration back to them in the form of money by placing it in the tip jars.

I hope you get out there and get a chance to dance like no one is watching…I do it every weekend!
