On the Scene With Tracey Stones
Adam Hill Unplugs at the Coast to Start Off A New Week
Adam Hill debuted his talent at Queen Anne’s Revenge, 501 Front St., Beaufort, NC; on Monday, July 2, 2018. The talented artist offered a great mix of music that included many original selections. The hard-working singer-songwriter keeps busy performing throughout the year.
When not working hard with his trio, The Adam Hill Band, he cuts grooves on his own throughout the state. To get to know Adam Hill a bit better, be sure to check out his website at www.adamhillmusic.net, find him on Facebook at The Adam Hill Band, check him out on YouTube at AdamHill79 or check him out on my YouTube page at Adam Hill’s Page on Tracey Stones YouTube Channel.
If you only like it live then you have two chances to catch Hill rocking the acoustic this weekend. Tonight you can find him bending strings at Crossroads Grill & Bar, 8136 Hwy 55W, Seven Springs, NC; (252) 569-1321. Music starts tonight at 10 pm. Tomorrow night Hill will be rocking New Bern with the six strings, when he plays Circa 1810 Bar at The Harvey Mansion; 221 S Front St., New Bern, NC; (252) 635-3232. Music starts at 5 pm and Hill offers the dinner music til 8 pm on the patio. Both shows are free, but feel free to tip the music makers you meet along the way. They are always working hard for your good time!
At press time I learned that Hill has a gig with his rocking original band, Victim of The Cause today. He is sharing the bill with a bunch of great bands at Mason Dixon Park, located in Seven Springs, NC. Just head on up Highway 55 E. This event started at noon and will rock into the night!
Barry Charlton Offers Entertainment Dockside at The Dockhouse
After a nice dinner and show at Queen Anne’s Revenge, I walk along the waterfront and stopped in on Barry Charlton who was entertaining the crowd gathering at Dockhouse Restaurant, 500 Front St, Beaufort, NC; (252) 728-4506. I have named Charlton many times in this blog as a means of promoting his live music dates, but this was the first time I had the pleasure of hearing the stringer and singer. For those that have yet to hear the skilled performer, you can catch him on Monday, July 9, Tuesday, July 10 and Monday, July 16, when he returns to the Dock House.
Music plays nightly throughout the Summer with tunes starting at 9 pm.
Welcome to The Weekend, Let’s Music EVERYWHERE!
On my way out to find music last night, I had to make a quick stop to run an errand. When I turned into the James City Food Lion parking lot last night I heard the pulse of a rhythm maker calling my name.
That is where I met Joel, set up banging his bongos and sharing his gift with anyone in earshot, shopping or eating in the plaza. Not only did he keep a good beat, but he shared some of his stories with me as well:
This was the sweet treat of the night. I spoke with Joel’s wife Theresa, who told me they set out earlier that day from their home in Goldsboro, NC. She drives him around to different towns to expose his talents and help him share his gift of making magical rhythms.
I am looking forward to hearing from the couple soon, so I can learn more about their story.
The Blues and Great Brews and Awesome Food all Served at BrÜtopia
Unless you are new here, you know my love for the blues runs deep and it flows freely for this local couple we know and love as The Kohlers. Big Jim and his bride Kathy are full of the blues and celebrate it all with soulful selections, that can bring anyone to a new place via their music.
Big Jim spent the final years of the renowned bluesmen (Son Seals’) career working as his band leader and right-hand man. Hailing from Long Island, NY, Kohler brought his family to North Carolina in 2011 and has called New Bern, NC home ever since. Not long after his arrival, Big Jim hit the streets with his guitar in hand and started sharing his blues with any and all who would listen. Before long, the gigs cam and the band formed and by 2012 Kohler was busy gigging weekly and shredding notes for new music appreciators everywhere.
After a serious bout of pneumonia, Big Jim wandered down the road of sobriety in September of last year, via an induced coma which kept him hospitalized for nearly a month. Since then the player has been working his way back to heal, gaining his strength and is now playing more often.
The next band gig on the calendar for the Big Jim Blues Band will be for a Concert in the Park series, that Tracey Stones Productions is presenting to the residents of Fairfield Harbour. The band will perform at Red Sail Park on Sunday, July 22, 2018, from 4-6 pm. Residents are welcome to pack a snack, a drink of choice and join us for music in the park.
Tiffany Elaine Aspires to Inspire Music Makers and Fans Alike
I first met our next performer several years ago when she walked into The Brown Pelican in New Bern, playing at one of their open mic nights. Since then the singer-songwriter has been making a name for herself all around our state and in Nashville, TN as well.
Currently hosting many open mics in several towns and in a few counties, Tiffany Elaine works hard to help her music brothers and sisters on the scene. Her favorite pastime is songwriting and she always has new music to share. With country music flowing from her heart, she has been dedicated to the genre since she started writing. It suites her, as she herself is a down home country girl with a warm disposition and lots of talent to share.
To keep in touch with this popular player find her on Facebook at
Little Cecil Rocked the Tipsy Turtle
I missed Cecil Gilken last weekend when he came to town to play at Circa 1810 Bar at the Harvey Mansion, so last night I sopped in to see the singer and stringer hard at work on stage at The Tipsy Turtle Tavern, 408 Atlantic Beach Cswy, Atlantic Beach. Offering original music as well as fun and familiar blues and classic rock covers, this player stays busy playing along our coast.
Tonight the player will team up with his bandmates, Core Sound and bring their show to Beaufort. They will perform at the Royal James Cafe from 9 pm until midnight.
The Roman Sams Rock at the Water’s Edge
When I first found the classic rock cover band The Roman Sams, it was three years ago while visiting Southern Salt Seafood Company and Waterfront Restaurant; 701 Evans St, Morehead City, NC. Back then the venue was brand new with furniture still being constructed, as well as an outside bar.
Last night I returned to that spot to enjoy the sounds of this fun band once again. They are a talented bunch of players raised mostly in Lenoir County. The five-piece outfit offers the skills of David Brown and Matthew Hart, both offering guitars and vocals, Phillip Alcock on bass, Jasmine Best on drums and standing front and center is singer Samantha Holland who rocks the crowd each time.
For those looking to be rocked right, you can check this band out next week on Saturday, July 14 at AJ McMurphy’s, 1914 Turnbury Dr., Greenville, NC. Music will be offered from 8 pm until midnight. The following week they will be sticking close to home to rock The Red Room, 220 N Herritage St., Kinston, NC, on Friday, July 20, 2018. Music starts at 10 pm and there is a $5.00 music charge to enter. To keep up with the band and all of their dates you can find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/theromansamsband/.
