On The Scene With Tracey Stones
Live Music and Halloween Fun
There were lots of characters out and about town this weekend. I stopped by three venues and enjoyed the audience as much as the bands. Way to show your spirit #NewBernStrong

Joe Baes Project Rock BrÜtopia for 2nd Annual Halloween Bash!
The Joe Baes Projectbrought the good times and fun music, for the Second Annual Halloween Bash at BrUtopia last Saturday, October 27, 2018. Offering cover songs from grunge to straight up rock originals, they always sound good serving up the sounds.
2018 offered the main trio of the project, see some transition with original bass brotherMike Galloway moving away.Baesreached out to a good friend on the scene from years beforeDan Taylor, to join his project. Since the spring of this year, the trio has been working hard combing through songs and making lists that feature rock, pop country, as well as the original music. The band is now fronted by namesakeJoe Baes on guitar and vocals, andJonathon Tolerback behind the kit on drums and vocals. Sometimes the project includes guest players on percussion and keys too.

The BiPolar Express Arrives at Blackbeard’s Station on Saturday
Next up it was over the bridge in search of trolls and ghouls, we stop atBlackbeard’s Triple Playand rock withThe BiPolar Express. The trio was dressed, like 80’s tennis players. Doing warmups between sets, it was the first chilly night of the season for music under the tent, and they were all sporting shorts. Rocking the packed crowd until 11:30 pm, they offered so many favorites, including a couple ACDC selections, Bon Jovi offering, Motley Crue and even Ratt to get the crowd moving. If you like 80’s hair bands you should make it a point to enjoy this band at a venue near you.
It is rare but the band is offthis weekend, but you can keep up to speed with their events by liking their band page on Facebook:
While on the subject of these two local trios, I will take a minute to mention that their next gigs will be on the same stage. Both trios will be rocking for the relief of our homeless veterans. In time for Veteran’s Day Weekend, this is the Third Annual Concert put on ByRobert HurffofRCSandPeace Soldier. Helping area veterans has been his mission for years and a few years back he organized this concert to amp up his contributions.
On the bill, this year are four local bands and one regional act that willShoot to Thrillyou. You can buy your tickets in town atMitchell’s Hardwareon Craven St. or atFullers Musicon Trent Rd. or buy your ticket at the gate. Come out and jam with local family bandStrung Together, rockersJoe Baes Project, theBiPolar Express,Peace Soldierand regional rockers,Shoot To Thrill, the all-female ACDC tribute act. That is a fine ticket of entertainment for a great cause. For more information on the show check out the Peace Soldier Website today:
Rounding out the rest of my stops last Saturday, I also stopped in at theBrown Pelicanon Middle Street,to catchRavenz Brurocking the crowd. Ghosts and witches were dancing, pirates made an appearance and the band played on. This local trio offers rock and pop classics and is known for offering a good selection of beach music in each set. Be sure to find them on Facebook by clicking here:
The Wannabees were scheduled to bring the party to the deck atBlackbeard’s Triple Playon Friday, October 26, 2018, but their show was canceled due to the bad weather. It was, however, rescheduled for Sunday night, when they rocked the crowd from 6-9 pm. The classic rock group is New Bern based and fine examples of the talent this town boasts. Joining in the fun for a few songs was harmonica playerSteve Burkett. The players had great fun playing to the Sunday evening crowd.
