On The Scene With Tracey Stones
On Saturday night I grabbed a friend and headed up to Lil Washington to enjoy a fun night of music. We stopped at three locations, enjoyed libations and toasted the birthday boy Bill Lyerly, who was rocking the Market Street Pub.
Backwater Jack’s Welcomes Corey Stuart
Backwater Jack’s Tiki Bar & Grill is a great stop for good food and live entertainment, for anyone in the neighborhood on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. They kick start the live music offerings with an open mic which is offered 7-10 pm on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, they offer the coolest cats around. The menu offers tasty treasures from the land and sea and cooked to your liking.
While I was in town on Saturday night, I stopped here first and grabbed a bite to eat in the bar area, while enjoying the music of the Raliegh based player Corey Stuart, who offers many pop hits familiar to music fans of the ’80s era. When I walked into the red room, the newly enclosed bar area at Backwater Jacks, the vibe was fun and music filled the air. This marks the first winter season supporting live music.
During the warmer music season, BJX welcomed acts to their outside space created just for them, the Pebble Beach Stage. Please consider joining them for supper and help them support live music year ’round.
Tonight this player heads north to tickle the ivories in Virginia this weekend. He plays with dueling pianos, he offers a solo show that is on an acoustic scale, with a simple keyboard or a full-blown one-man band with all the bells and whistles. Currently booking the 2019 calendar season, this player even has an opening for you this month. Reach out to book this artist by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Wine Crate and William Seymour
It was one surprise after another at our next stop. Over at The Wine Crate, we had the pleasure of enjoying the music of William Seymour, who was recently featured on our local news station WCTI during a local band spotlight feature.
I also learned that the bar at The Wine Crate is made of said crates, which not only has an extensive wine menu but also a good beer selection and they serve your favorite alcohol choices as well. They are a bistro that serves delicious food and features a Sunday Brunch with live music, as well as live music each Saturday evening.
Seymour is a lifer, playing music and writing songs for a good part of his existence, he is ready to release his first effort of original material. The disc is a collection of songs he has written over the last many years and recorded with his best music friends from around the state. Recently being sent off for the final mastering, the disc will soon be available for purchase.
Seymour will be in town next week, New Bern readers. If you have yet to catch this talented local star, be sure to stop into the Brown Pelican next Friday, March 8, 2019, to have a listen to the awesome player. He will be rocking the Dirty Bird then from 7-10 pm.
The Greenville based artist did a kick-starter to get this next effort out there and now we are in the final stages of the process. Having said that, tonight William Seymour Kickstarter Finale at The Loft. Come out here songs from the new release, preorder your copy and enjoy music by Seymour and special guests at The Loft by Still Life.

NC’s Roadhouse Rocker Celebrates 66
The final stop of the night brought us to the middle of town, where we hung out for the latter part of the night at The Market Street Pub. I have wanted to visit this pub for nearly as long as I have been writing this blog and finally, the time came last week. It’s a cool and fun hole in the wall, that supports live music and the bands that bring it.
The reason I went to town was to be on hand for the celebration of this man, Bill Lyerly, who actually turned 66 just yesterday, but the celebration kicked off last Saturday. Bill’s longtime friend and music supporter, Jack Willard invited me to the party, which also included cake to mark the milestone!
Joining Lyerly on stage for the rocking night of roadhouse originals and familiar rock covers, was Wolf Cratch on drums and Shelby Wall on bass. The trio is a tight-knit bunch of professional players that pull off the unknown changes with style and ease.
Though the future is always uncertain, one thing is clear, Lyerly is looking forward to returning to Market Street Pub in April, when he unveils the newly mastered release of his disc, Case of the Jones. Mark your calendars for April 27, to be on hand for the release party.
Tomorrow night you can catch the trio at the Spring, in Willow Spring, NC, where they are the music hosts of this event: Pisces Party featuring Bill Lyerly. The music and fun start at 9 pm.
