On The Scene with Tracey Stones
For anyone sitting around the house, saying there is nothing to do, I declare there is plenty of great things to do, especially if you live in or near New Bern.
Like all cities that were effected by Hurricane Florence, we are still in the throws of recovery and fighting to come back stronger and better than ever. We won’t be mended and healed in another month, this will be years in the making. But the most important thing is we are making big strides in the right direction.
Last night in downtown New Bern ArtWalk kicked off the 2019 season, with many crafty things to celebrate all around our town. The Isaac Taylor Garden reopened the gallery and Community Artists Gallery & Studios offered live music with Dan Jam Phillips in their new location on Middle Street. Just down the road, they were bouncing between the Harrison Center and The Bank of the Arts for The Potters Throwdown, where potters made bowls and the kids in the community made soup to fill them.
This Potter’s Throwdown also featured the music of Strung Together and soup making contest. The winners of the Soup competition will share their winning recipes at the next ArtWalk on February 9, 2019. This annual event raises money for RSC and Craven Arts Council.

Beyond the Arts and Crafts, Shops and Stores, New Bern Hosts Plenty of Music Too
Blazing Strings at BrUtopia
Coming to town to perform for the friends and fans at BrUtopia last night was Justin Castellano, while fighting a nasty head cold still rocked the house at the fun brewhouse in James City. This brew bar is hosting their first home brewery class at Craven Community College this semester, with more learning opportunities being talked about for future semesters.
One of my favorite things about this awesome place is how the owner works hard to support local business and local music. He invites food trucks, he pairs with other breweries in our area to promote everyone, he educates the community by sharing his passion for craft beer. If you have not stopped out yet, come by and meet Tim
There will be live music featured tonight. As a means of dropping hints, one of the stringers above will be bringing his band to boogie with you tonight! Live music 7-10 pm and more on the details of who will entertain you will follow down below!

More Crystal Coast Players Flock to Town to Entertain
Last night at The Brown Pelican it was local stringer Ashton Ward who calls the Crystal Coast home.
Ward is a talented stringer and a deep voice singer, with a keen ear for country pop and rock songs. I first met Ward at an open mic where we were introduced by Tiffany Elaine. One thing I can say, the three of us do our part in supporting other musicians. Elaine hosts open mics and promotes and welcomes everyone, Ward uses social media to drive music lovers out to support his friends as well. We all know what I am up to when it comes to supporting live music!
In the fashion of supporting others, Ward asked his friends to the stage to play when he took a break. This not only kept the music playing but it welcomed us an opportunity to hear the sounds of United States Marine,
James Weesner on guitar and his lifelong friend John Jones. The two friends are lifelong buds from
Assisting in causing a ruckus, Marron Chaplin got up just long enough to see to it that Miquela would have to reset the Wagon Wheel. Ward and Chaplin are good friends and in fact Ward wrote an awesome song about this rocker chick living her dreams.
The one thing I love is all of the love you pass my way. It is always a wonderful vibe to see all of the great people that call New Bern Home. Above I got kissed on the cheek and thanked for my work by the amazing photographer, Ina Thomas! Her work is simply amazing and she is available to shoot you!

Joe Baes Project Rocks City Stage
Friday, January 11 marked the opening of the 2019 music season for The Joe Base Project. They
This trio is New Bern based and offers a good selection of rock standards. My favorite songs on their set list are always the originals. They are best at bringing their own grooves to the table.
The trio announced their newest member last music season and this year is more seasoned himself with the material. It was a fun night of music and fellowship as it always is with this great crowd of followers.
Adding to the fun they invited Mark McKenzie to shred some tunes during the two sets I was in the house. It was another good time with this energetic fun band, who is currently booking their 2019 music season. To get them on your calendar visit their website and reach out to them today!

Bruce was Doin’ the Bruin
Offering the jams last evening for the friends and fans that came together at The Thirsty Bruin, was Bruce Lynch. This guitar man is one that inspires me more even words can express. He hates me to shoot him playing his guitar with just his one arm, but I think everyone needs to see him and hear him as well. He will inspire you too.
The New Bern stringer plays at a couple of popular watering holes around town. When not serving the sounds at the Bruin you can find him rocking the Dirty Bird.

The Switch Warmed Up the Deck at Blackbeard’s
Last but not least, the final band we found around town last night was The Switch, who was busy warming things up on the deck at Blackbeard’s Triple Play when I got there.
The traveling party band is staged by two brothers from Alabama, Larry and Artie Davis. They are always a big draw too. They bring the set list packed with fan favorites and lots energy to throw in the mix. This band loves entertaining their audience.
They are a talented bunch of players that have a hard time picking an instrument to master. They all have mad skills and take the time to show us that throughout the show.
To get better acquainted with the band visit their Facebook page and give it a like. They stay busy rocking fans around the region. Tonight they are going to be kicking it with the lucky fans in Benson. They will be live at
The Junction, for those out that way tonight or just like the band on Facebook and head out to see them soon. They like it when you show up!!!
