The Blue Note Grill

The Blue Note Grill wants everyone to be aware, that there is amazing entertainment in the house tonight! Here is the news from their Facebook event:

APRIL 19, 2019 · FRIDAY * 9PM * NO COVER

Cosmic Country Band

We are dedicated to keeping the spirit of 1970s Austin Cosmic Country alive. To that end, our set includes Progressive and Classic country music including songs from Willie Nelson, Michael Murphy, Joe Ely, Doug Sahm, Lefty Frizzell, Bob Wills, Webb Pierce and Ray Price. We also throw in a tune or two of Outlaw Country by Waylon Jennings and Dale Watson, as well as more recent Country by Don Williams and Carlene Carter. Finally, because we understand that country and rock and roll are kissing cousins, we have even been known to play a song by Brenda Lee or Chuck Berry to make the swing dancers happy. The Cosmic Country Band is comprised of music veterans who know how to keep a crowd loose and happy. We look forward to playing for you.

Meet The Players

Leslie Land

started playing piano at age 4 and was a founding member of Southern Culture on the Skids. She has played bass and sung with The Beauty Operators, Sleepy LaBeef, Eugene Chadbourne, John Brown, Robert Griffin, Mel Melton and the Wicked Mojos, Scott Sawyer, The Duke Street Dogs, Rebecca Newton, Cream of Soul, the Murphey School Radio Show, Nancy Middleton and many others. She does voice over work for area radio stations and has done recording sessions all over the Triangle for the last 25 years. Leslie is a gifted singer who likes to tell the story in the song. She’s also a firm believer in the “Keep it in the pocket, 4 strings are enough, less is always more” school of bass playing.

David Prather

is an Austin, Texas born musician, who has played in bands with Larry Gatlin, Hot Tuna, The Knack, Kinky Freidman, Roger McGuinn and many others. His bluegrass band was voted Best Bluegrass band two years in a row in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll Awards, while he was voted Third Place in the Best Guitar Player category in those same awards, behind Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Johnson. He also plays in the Triangle area as a single act. David moved to Durham in 2016.

Lisa Rhodes

began her career in Austin, sharing the stage both locally and on the road with artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joan Jett, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul and Joe Ely. She also worked in New Orleans with The Neville Brothers, performing with them locally and on tour, recording with them and co-writing a song that was included on two of their CDs. The Cosmic Country Band has allowed her to return to the musical roots of her childhood in South Texas, where she grew up listening to Tejano, Czech and Country music at a rural, crossroads dancehall. Lisa relocated to Durham in 2012.

Larry Duckworth

began his career in Charlotte with area bands and Jazz greats Loonis McGlohon and Bill Hannah. Duckworth worked with the Charlotte Symphony and was the drummer for local theaters playing for productions of West Side Story, Godspell, 1776, and Sound of Music. He moved to Chapel Hill in 1976 where he played for Bill Bolen, Jim Crisp and Jim Ketch. Backing up The Shirelles, Dennis Yost, Leslie Gore, Tommy Roe and the Romans and Sam Moore. He currently plays with Too Much Fun, Orange County All Stars, The Whiskey Honeys and Stan Lewis and the Law Breaking Revelers, and has recently has appeared with Lee Gildersleeve, Pete Pawsey/Radars Clowns of Sedation, Tea Cup Gin and Glenn Jones.

Larry and Leslie were recently described by a beloved area producer and studio owner as “The Durham Wrecking Crew”.

Get ready to hear Classic Country Music as never before! Grab hold and hang on tight, because these folks kick it up a notch, playing old favorites and standards, as only they can. Powerful vocals and harmonies that will send chills down to your soul. A group of veteran musicians who push the limits of the genre.

Bo Ragan – Lead Guitar, Vocals
