It’s Local Favorites, New Faces, and Grand Places

On The Scene With Tracey Stones

This week offers some local favorites, new faces and grand places supporting live music. Above, blog supporter, Kathleen Forrest with Hank Barbee at The Brown Pelican on Saturday, January 12, 2019

Saturday Starts with a Pause for a Cause

I caught up with The Adam Hill Band on Saturday afternoon. The trio of rockers was on hand to perform, following a poker run that honored the life of Jay Roberts.

The band rocked the stage at Rena J’s on Wilmington Highway, Jacksonville, NC. They welcomed riders at the end of the run and took a pause for the spreading of Robert’s ashes. The Last Ride for the lost brother offered memories and music, food and more.

Adam Hill offers sliding scales

The band offered a good variety of rock and southern rock favorites, while mixing in their own awesome originals. It has been a while since I caught up with the trio! But when I finally did, I learned that drummer Cecil Pittman Jr. is working behind the scenes compiling the things needed to run sound for shows.

The idea which appeals most to Pittman is finding a room and working the sound for their music events. If you have a music venue and you often thought about providing a house sound and lights operation, consider reaching out to Pittman. You can reach him by phone by dialing 910-990-5278.

For fans and friends of the Adam Hill Band, the band will be rocking the beach tomorrow. Come enjoy a Wilmington NC night and take in the sounds of this rocking trio at Bourbon Street Wilmington. Music starts at 9 pm.

Here’s a clip from last weekend’s memorial benefit. This is an original, “Full House.”

Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel while you are there! Thanks!

Back In The Bern We Boogie

Caffeinated Soul Boogie poured out the grooves at BrUtopia last Saturday night, to usher in their 2019 music season. The New Bern based band is looking forward to spreading out this year and bringing their show to more people around the region.

The band is currently booking the 2019 calendar. They are available for regular pub shows, festivals, private parties and community event. The quartet features a father/daughter team that got started in the church, carried on in coffee shops and continues to grow and expand their audience and repertoire.

To get to know the band better please visit the band’s website:

The Dust Settles at The Dirty Bird

Hank Barbee and The Dust Parade paid a visit to The Brown Pelican last Saturday night and grooved his many fans on hand at “The Dirty Bird.”

The band opened the night with some newer, soon to be recorded original music. After we got comfortable and in the mood, they offered brand new material for all to enjoy. (I consider it brand new if I never heard it!!!) I was glad to be in the room, ready to record. Here is Day of Decay by The Dust Parade.

The Wilmington based band played to a full house of fans, that have missed their surf sounds. It has been a few months since the band played around town. They have been busy playing around the region and doing their part in raising funds and awareness for Hurricane Relief for the many areas affected by Florence.

Making up beats last week were Hank Barbee on vocals and guitar, Jim Durham offered supporting vocals and saxophone; Matt Henderson played the bass and filling in on drums was, The Spread’s own Will Phetterplace.

Tonight the Dusty Trio featuring Barbee, Durham, and Henderson will be rocking the Crystal Coast. More on that below, but to keep up with this fun and fabulously creative band visit http://www.hankbarbee.com

TrainWreck Pulls into Blackbeard’s

On Saturday night, TrainWreck pulled into the station to groove the folks on the deck at Blackbeard’s Triple Play Restaurant. The Greenville based band with New Bern roots, always brings the party.

This band has a long history of rocking the region with funky pop tunes that everyone knows and loves. They come out in many formations. Sometimes they offer dueling horns while other nights they feature two lead singers. If you have not checked in with them lately, make it a point to rock with them soon.

Open Mic Madness in Newport Makes Monday Less Mundane

On Monday night I headed out to Shortway Brewing Co. in Newport, NC to enjoy the maple stout and open mic night. This great community beer stop offers many flavors of beer, brewed on site in their brew room. The family-owned operation puts community first and opens the floor to local singer-songwriters on the second and fourth Monday of each week.

This week I enjoyed the sounds of Wiregrass, the bluegrass band featuring Pat and Brian Till, who will be at Courtyards at Berne Village in New Bern tomorrow afternoon, offering songs to residence from 1-3 pm.

I also got to catch up with blog supporters, Phillip Canelos (pictured above) and Ashton Ward as well. Both offered several acoustic selections for the crowd to enjoy. Before the night ended we also enjoyed the music of Steve Mehan and a few numbers courtesy of Mackenzie Webb

DEFAS Welcomes Tom Kimmel to the Down East for a Trio of Shows

On Wednesday evening, Down East FolkArts Society DEFAS kicked off their 2019 Season with the offering of Mississippi artist Tom Kimmel. Though the artist hails from Alabama, he has called many places home before making his way to Hattiesburg, MS.

The singer-songwriter offered a number of familiar selections from his growing catalog. In between selections he offers quick stories to form the base of each number.

I met the performer during his show at The City Stage in New Bern on Wednesday evening. Along with a number of wonderful songs offered throughout the show, Kimmel also offers from his published book of works He opened his trio of area appearances in New Bern and all shows were set up by DEFAS, whose mission is to build stronger community with music.

Last night the talented wordsmith offered his show to fans in Morehead City. He played at Jack’s on the Waterfront. Tonight Kimmel will be closing out his appearances in our area with a performance at Saint Francis by the Sea Tonight’s show starts at 7 pm and features two sets which conclude at 8:30 pm. The DEFAS shows are free admission, but donations are encouraged and graciously accepted.

Kicking it at the Close of 2018

On the Scene With Tracey Stones

Happy New Year. I am glad we made it through 2018 and look forward to tackling 2019 as a team as well! Hopefully, everyone had a safe and joyous New Year!

To be honest, most years I think to myself, “Oh New Year, new start,” and not much ever changes. This year I never thought much about it and here it is the most revolutionary of all the New Years, since I started reporting on music around the state.

From this perspective, 2018 was one of serious personal growth and not much prosperity. To be honest, I have been in limbo for the last six month. I had a bit of a personal storm blow through my life and it resulted in upsetting many things, long before Florence was a thing to talk about. So with it all being said and done…good riddens!

2019 starts with big news and big changes in the life of two bloggers. With accepting the Marketing Director and Ad Sales Executive position for NC Life Media, I look forward to meeting lots of people as we help them promote their business in the community and beyond.

The most exciting part of this position is the ability to offer our advertisers so many platforms to help them grow. We are ready to offer three stages for business development. We can offer our advertisers affordable radio, print and online exposure.

If you have a business and look for new ways to get the word out to people about your products, please, contact me today 318-789-6929 and we can build an effective and affordable marketing plan for the year ahead!

Blogger Returns to the Beat

,After 11 days with fever and 13 days of rest, on Saturday, December 29, 2018, I made my way back to the scene, just in time for the year-end wrap up around town.

I started things off with stopping by to visit my friends at BrUtopia, where I enjoyed the sounds of the sweet Sabra Mason. I met this talented soul at an open mic night in Newport a couple of months ago and have enjoyed hearing her several times since.

Our mutual friend Tiffany Elaine introduces her as the Reba McIntyre of our region. Offering a great variety of pop and country songs, she can go gospel and sing the blues too. Besides covering popular songs, the artist is a songwriter in her own right. To learn more visit her page on Facebook.

Bad Decisions Band Rocked the Deck at Blackbeard’s

Blackbeard’s Triple Play offered a new band for the crowd to welcome, the last Saturday of 2018! On the deck and making ’em dance was the Bad Decisions Band from the Smithfield area.

The fun party band boasts two lead singers and offers a variety of popular songs for the audience. With most of the focus on Southern rock and country selections, they had the crowd boot scooting before finishing their first set. They kept the good times rolling, until they wrapped up their debut on S Front St.

Mark your calendars now if you missed it, because venue owner Dale Overbee will have them back for another New Bern night on Saturday, February 2.

Come dance like a groundhog and have some fun! Free music is offered 7:30-11 pm on the deck and later rocking inside the walls of the downtown bar and restaurant!

The band line up includes Shane Norris, Valerie Boyette, who swap in offering the lead and backing vocals, Clay Benson, plays the acoustic strings, Matt Starling is lead on electric strings, Rebekah Martin offers keyboard riffs, Ben Hayes hiding out in the back but adding the bottom beats on bass and behind the kit, Zach Pleasant. This traveling band offers a fun night of entertainment for any crowd that likes to cut up.

They will be playing around other areas in the region as well in the weeks ahead. Be sure to like their band page and check out their upcoming Facebook events.

Bryan Mayer Closes Out Busy Year Close to Home

Without much notice and word came the news that Bryan Mayer would perform the last Saturday of the year in town at The Brown Pelican. Joining the singer and stringer with bongo beats and backing vocals was Mayer’s longtime friend Critty Robinson.

Offering all of the fan favorite grooves that keep the popular country artist and CCMA Male Vocalist of the Year in the spotlight. A packed house at the Dirty Bird enjoyed the show!

The Brown Pelican has been a big supporter of live music since opening their doors. They offer an open mic every Thursday, with sign up at 7 pm and music starting at 8 pm. Fridays offer the best in regional acoustic acts. Free music plays 7-10 pm. Saturdays bring the best in the bands who rock you each week from 8-11 pm.

Fans and friends who missed him last week can find Bryan Mayer along the Crystal Coast tonight. He will offer his first acoustic show at Promise’ Land Market. Music plays 8:30 – 11:30 pm.

For fans and friends who wish to see the full band in their best element, be sure to order tickets for the CMMA’s on January 26, 2019. New Bern Had Something for Everyone on NYE

The City’s first-ever “Bear Drop” took place at midnight on Monday night/Tuesday Morning in front of the City Hall to ring in the New Year. This amazing event was made possible thanks to Toyota of New Bern and the hard-working people at City of New Bern Parks and Recreation Department. Together they organized the City’s first ever NYE Block Party.

A lot of spontaneous and last minute hard work brought our city the best ever NYE celebration in the town’s recent history. The night-long event opened to the public at 5 pm and offered food and drink vendors, a big stage featuring two live music acts and a bear drop from the corner of the clock tower at the top of City Hall.

Sitting in the studio for the New Bern and Beyond Podcast, which will air Monday when the topic came up, I asked Colleen Roberts if they did many rehearsals for the timed drop and she assured me they did. Be sure to tune in to hear about other behind the scenes fun facts.

On the stage and providing the entertainment for the evening was Adam Pitts, a talented solo act the offers a full band sound with a few mixers and settings on the pedals. The Raleigh based singer welcomed the crowd to the stage, on Pollock St. just after 6 pm. The free event was well received by the citizens and many visitors in attendance.

On stage and rocking the party beats from 9 pm until the midnight countdown we enjoyed Love Tribe, another Raleigh based band that offered a fun and diverse set of music to keep the crowd excited.

Just before the stroke of midnight, Mayor Dana Outlaw came to the stage and thanked the crowd, as we all counted down the final seconds together.

Besides the big block party in town, I bounced about and found lots of other parties taking place in all corners of New Bern.

℘℘℘℘

At The City Stage

The City Stage offered Drag to Riches. This entertaining night featured Madame Z and her Divas, who provide comedy song and dance as they engage the crowd.

℘℘℘℘

The Bears Played the Elks Club

I found New Bern’s favorite oldies band, The Bears rocking with the youngsters that gathered for a fun night of dinner and dance at the Elks Lodge.

The crowd enjoyed the music and the Bears enjoyed their audience. Giving away prizes and engaging their friends, everyone enjoyed the night at the Elks Lodge.

To keep up with The Bears Band on Facebook, visit their page and give it a like to keep up to dates with show announcements.

3 Day Weekend Rocks Monette J G Grocery ~ A NYE Tradition

For as long as they have been doing it, local rockers 3 Day Weekend have played New Year’s Eve at Monette’s J G Grocery. This tradition started when they formed 14 years ago. This fun time is an affordable $10 and offers and community setting complete with food for all and beverages sold on site.

The New Bern based rockers always fill the dance floor, just like they always close out New Year’s Eve on Free Bird, a classic southern rock anthem by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

℘℘℘℘

Peace Soldier At The Brown Pelican

Speaking of classic rock, Peace Soldier was offering the classic rock grooves at The Brown Pelican. No photos were taken as the band was rocking the crowd in the dark.

I wish every band that sets up at the Brown Pelican would take note of the brown cord beneath the wall outlet. Don’t be shy, plug that cord in so that the lights can shine on you and people can see your faces! Dan Jam Phillips helped rig those lights three years ago and they are very useful. Please use them if you play there!

Turning the spotlight back on classic rockers Peace Soldier, they will be part of a fun event that will raise money for those effected by Hurricane Florence.

Interestingly enough, each of the band’s on this bill can tell you of their significant losses and share their story of the flood that tried to defeat us. Headliners, Strung Together are the family band that lost their home on E Front Street to the named storm. They are excited to be moving back into the dwelling to continue renovations later this month.

Lead singer and founding member of Peace Soldier, Robert Hurff, was rescued from his dwelling as the water entered his living space. Two of the players in The Hot Buttered Grits saw the river rush through their homes as well. And opening the show tomorrow at the Turnage Theater is The Neuse River Ramblers, a band featuring banjo player Danny Batten, who suffered severe damage to his store Surf Wind & Fire, located on Middle St in Downtown New Bern.

All will gather on one ticket for the 6th Annual Guitar Fest, a free show for any who wish to attend. Please consider bringing a considerable donation, as this is a fundraising event and this year the money raised will be filtered back into New Bern for Hurricane Relief. Your help is still very much much needed!

Music starts at 4 pm! Hope to see you there.

Irresistible Groove & Masquerade at Blackbeard’s Triple Play & The Farmer’s Market

Blackbeard’s Triple Play hosted a fun night featuring a masquerade party. Given this fun option, many towns people showed up to town with their masks

The band hired for the night played on stage a the Farmers Market. Irresistible Groove offered a fun music experience for the masked dancers that gathered for the good times. The Triangle-based party band made it irresistible for people to groove, hence the fitting name.

When not rocking the grooves with this band, a few of the members gather to offer Groove5band. I recommend you look for and like both band pages on Facebook.

Building Dreams with Live Music

Behind the Scenes with Tracey Stones

On Friday morning I saw a Facebook post that announced Bryan Mayer was going to be a guest in the studio at Charles Tendell Studios, for an appearance on New Bern Live. When I saw the post, I mentioned that I wanted to be there.

New Bern Live’s Cheryl McCarthy talks with promoter Kim Briele and Country Artist Bryan Mayer and Party Crasher Tracey Stones joined the conversation!

About 12 minutes into the show,  I stopped by the studio and jumped in to talk about the special guest, local country crooner and CCMA 2018 Male Vocalist of the Year Bryan Mayer.

It has been a very exciting year for the country singer, that kicked off the year at the CCMA Awards, held at The House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Having been there for those moments in the singer-songwriter’s career, I wanted to share my angle with the world.

Bryan Mayer 2018

The whole reason one might become a blogger is, this obsession with telling the fun stories of people’s lives. I was invited to this awards show at the last minute, earlier this year and accepted the opportunity. It was another fun night with the national country band New Bern considers their own.

Years before Florence ever put New Bern on the map, Bryan Mayer had us ranked on the National Country Charts, thanks much in part to his fans requesting to hear his song, “This is Me.” on the radio! Truly a dream come true.

That song put this son of a US Marine Corps Colonel and a Navy nurse on a country road that has been good to him ever since. This year and just weeks ago, that hit song was released as a Karaoke selection for the Sound Choice Karaoke Catalogs. The talented singer-songwriter was on hand for the big release during a party at The Brickhouse in Raleigh last month.

Currently, Bryan Mayer Band has a new single for sale and request on the radio. You can buy “Crazy In Love,” at all of the popular spots. Google, Apple, Spotify, etc.  Please visit the website to read all about this artist who is tall on giving back to his community!

 BRYAN MAYER

The band will perform again at the CCMA, as they position themselves for more recognition on the country charts in 2019.

Swapping Ideas With Stingers and Singers

My mission in this music business is to create communities everywhere. The goal in doing this is to create a healthier music community with fair pay stages in communities near in far. Partnering with community leaders to make opportunities happen for music makers and venues that support them.

One of the reasons I got back into this business is, because of the fun creative process involved behind the scenes of the business. They say if you do what you love for a living, you will never work a day in your life. I love working with bands and showing them how to set themselves up as a business. Thing is, most bands get together with the intent of having fun and making some money. If you put a lot of time into it, you will need to make money from your craft to support it. Given that it is essential for bands to establish themselves as a professional unit leaving the gate!

Rubich & Cain

When Ryan Rubich reached out about meeting with me, we finally connected the other night when I rolled into Jacksonville. We grabbed a bite to eat and enjoyed some good conversation about the music business. I am available to do this with anyone who is serious about creating their niche in the business. Of course most bands approach me on the hope and thought that I would consider being an agent. I am a promoter and a writer. I am a separate entity all my own, who is creating opportunities for everyone who goes out in support of live music.

It was not long ago that Rubich teamed up with Jared Cain and he was interested in hearing some insight on where they could bring the project. For anyone interested in checking out the duo, they will be rocking the Salty Turtle Beer Co. next Saturday from 6-9 pm.

We Can Build the Platform that Heals the Community

Behind the Scene with Tracey Stones

The Platform of Music

It can’t be denied! Music is a powerful thing. It moves people. All people. It is an innate part of our being. Music is natural because we keep beats with the universe. Our world offers us music, nature offers songs. For some people, music is as essential as air and water. We can do so much with music. It seems we are at a pivotal point in our society. We are a suffering breed, mankind.

Nothing about life or living it is easy. This is true no matter what bloodline runs through you. I don’t care if you were built with a silver spoon in your mouth or born in the back of a Greyhound bus. Fact is, we all go through hills and valleys. Sometimes full villages and communities are overcome with strife and hardships. Whether we stop to admit it or not, healing is an important part of living life.

After the Storm

Today, I live in a community which went from almost paradise to a war zone after a three-day storm named Florence came to visit in September. She put my little town of New Bern on the map in ways we never would have hoped. Our President even came to call. Devastation like many have never seen and now it’s a part of our normal existence.

And it was not just New Bern. It was everywhere along and near the water on North and South Carolina. It is far more devastating than what we saw beyond the news stories on television. This is most comparable to the catastrophic mess of Katrina.

Facing Reality

To see this happening and watch it exist before our very eyes; it’s like no news story on the television. Facing things in real life is always a completely different story worth reporting. Fact is, no one is ever prepared for a Florence or a Michael.

That being said, when such a power couple comes for a visit in the same season, I can assure you our country and its government is not prepared to rebuild the world for free either. This catastrophic mess can only be mended with time and human compassion. Much of the rebuilding money will have to be generated by fundraising. We as communities can generate a lot of revenue, by coming together for the common cause of music.

Stages for Healing

When I look around and assess the destruction and try to wrap my head around the dollars needed to rebuild my hometown, the only way I can see it happening is through fundraising. This is NOT the only way to rebuild my hometown, but the many communities that surround us as well.

There really are no words for all of the destruction, but on the flip side, the Hurricane also brought us together as a community as we mended. Here in my corner of the world, we saw the most amazing acts of kindness all around us. It was wonderful to witness that each day. In fact, it was that which pulled me through the hardest days after the storm.

Meeting with Like Minds

Since the storm, I have held many meeting with people around the state with the sole purpose of brainstorming how we can use music to heal communities and brace ourselves for the next storm…as there will be another storm!

Just a few weeks ago I met with two friends from different areas of the state to discuss how we could generate revenue via music. The idea of a blues festival erupted when I met with bluesman Joel Sugarman. However, when I met with music appreciator Cindi Kanipe, we discussed a series of music festivals that take place each year for a new non-profit that raises money for the next major event.

Earlier this year I accepted the appointment of sitting on the board of directors for the Down East FolkArts Society. The reason it interests me most is that of the new president Charlie McCurry, shares the philosophy of mending communities with music. This week I met with the new Chairman to discuss the direction of the board and fundraising ideas.

Next week we will meet as a board and I will return with the line up for DEFAS Winter 2019 season. They will be bringing three artists to our area from different regions. Look forward to learning more about Tom Kimmel, Sam Gleaves and Becky Warren.

Mail Drop

Ben Noblit,  who not only promotes but plays upright bass for the upbeat and jovial Tan and Sober Gentlemen, reached out last week to let me now they released a new CD in time for the holidays. Here is the band’s formal press release.

Tan and Sober Gentlemen – “Veracity.”

Contact: Ben Noblit (tanandsober@gmail.com).

“Fast-paced, toe-tapping, fiddle-playing musical mayhem, certainly worth a look to any fans of Irish music.” -Ireland Calling

“The best craic ever. Safe to say, next time they’re around, we’re bringing our dancing shoes.” -The Irish Examiner

11/28/18, SNOW CAMP, NC – Building on their rapidly growing reputation as one of the Old North State’s best live shows, The Tan and Sober Gentlemen have released their debut album, “Veracity.”  Recorded in the woods of Chatham County, North Carolina, the album is a riotous, scorching take on what the band calls “Scotch-Irish hillbilly music.”

Born and raised in the North Carolina back-country, the seven-piece band explores the Celtic roots of their state’s musical heritage. Though deeply rooted in traditional music, the band plays with a wide-open-throttle, no-holds-barred mentality that reflects their commitment to bring back the passion, energy, and ruggedness of the old-school hillbilly pickers. They like their folk music with the bark left on, and it shows.

Since their formation in the summer of 2016, Tan and Sober’s raucous live show has quickly earned them a loyal following in the Appalachians, the East Coast, and Ireland. With sold-out shows across the South, and with international tours on the horizon, “Veracity” promises to be the next rung on the ladder to success.  Stream or buy the record on Spotify, Bandcamp, or wherever you get your music.

T&SG at Bernaroo

I was introduced to this band at the 2017 Bernaroo Music and Arts Festival in New Bern. They performed at The Isaac Taylor Garden. This band is show-stopping fun, and energetic beyond words. If you like Irish music with flair, be sure to check out this talented North Carolina band. Bring them home for Christmas, for the Celtic Punk Grass music fan in your life.

To learn more about the band or to keep up with their schedule visit their website:

Local Songstress has Songs for You to Sing

Cheri Moyers is an amazing example of a person using music to heal her life. Cheri is a local songwriter with quite an amazing story of survival.  The New Bern based songwriter and singer has been battling a degenerative disease for decades, but more recently the illness claimed her eyesight.

Beyond other things, battling blindness was her bravest battle. Rising to the challenges that life was throwing at her, she founded a local chapter for the National Federation of the Blind and then turned to music as a way to focus on life again. Though in another time in life she was well versed on the stage, these days the singer has been focusing on her songwriting.

Spending a lot of time between New Bern and Nashville TN, the songwriter is composing a quite a catalog of songs she hopes that area artists might consider making songs of their own. Below I am attaching her new Christmas song that she hopes will be a consideration.

For anyone interested in speaking with the artist about her collection of songs be sure to reach out to her today. Her email is cheri_moyers@yahoo.com.

New Bern Welcomes the Holiday Season As I Find Music All Around Town

On the Scene with Tracey Stones

46510633_1889245307778941_4751483553189986304_n.jpg

New Bern welcomed in the holiday season last night, making for another celebratory moment for #NewBernStrong with the season of giving and Santa Claus too. As the town’s people gathered on Middle Street to meet the man of the season and take a sleigh ride, I walked around the downtown looking for music to share.

I love this town. I look forward to what we are going to become in the years ahead! Last night I rounded four city blocks and found five bands rocking our scene surrounding the holiday hoopla!

Rick Huff Rocks the Dirty Bird

Our first stop brings us to The Brown Pelican which hosted Rick Huff last evening, offering classic rock songs from 7-10 pm. It is always fun to listen to Huff share his songs. He has been rocking around the region for decades and always tells me how blessed and lucky he feels that he gets to do this. He truly enjoys sharing songs with fans and friends and he has a good base of both, always out in support!

Marron Chaplin Rocks the Bruin

Marron Chaplin was surrounded by the love of fans and friends when I walked into The Thirsty Bruin last night. She was rocking the crowd and they responded with loud applause and lighter flames burning in the air. This talented songstress has been rocking crowds for years and is getting ready to put some fun new things together for fans to enjoy.  For those hoping to catch her at a show soon, you are in luck if you find yourself around New Bern tonight. This rocker will be opening up the night at The Brown Pelican. She gets to work at 8 pm and will rock you until 10. Don’t miss it!

Wannabees Give Em What They Want Outside

The first time I met this band they ran away with my heart. They were the first band to play for the Annual Fundraiser for Promise Place. That is the Sexual Assault Agency in town that serves victims of rape and sexual abuse. Each year they host a fundraiser called Barn Bash. Just days before Florence they hosted the 5th Annual on the Batten Farm in James City.  The Wannabees were the first headlining act, to offer to their talents and services for the benefit. Since then, I can’t tell you how many times I have seen them. But it was just last night when I saw them again.

They were rocking the deck at Blackbeard’s Triple Play, working hard to keep ’em warm under the tent. This quartet of classic rockers is New Bern based and so much fun. For those who are interested in keeping up with the band be sure to give their Facebook page a like:

TrainWreck Funks Them Up Inside

Another New Bern born band that is always fun and worth the price of admission is that of TrainWreck, who rocked the house last night from 10 pm until the last call.

Founder Adrian Watts formed the band nearly 14 years ago and has rocked crowds in many rotations. Making the music come together on stage is Adrian Watts, guitar and vocals, Darrin Pratt, on the bass guitar, Barney Branch, playing the saxophone and helping with vocals. Evan Roberson plays the trombone. Terrance Cooper offers the vocals. Stepfon Rodman, is back behind the kit, on the drums, Tracy Dudley rocking the keys and Alex Nieves is always working the sound for the band.

Tonight the band brings their show to the Crystal Coast. You can find them at Jack’s Waterfront Bar. They get to funking things up from 10 pm until the last call. To keep up with the band be sure to visit their website by clicking the name below:

Sandy Green Showing off the new shirts for Guitarists for Good!!

I heard from my music promoter friend and guitarist April Anders this week. She has something worth talking about this holiday season. She is a part of a non-profit organization that she wants our area to know about, in the hopes that we can help them. I think it is a worthy cause so, here is what I learned:

Guitarists for Good

is a non-profit that provides the gift of guitars and music to homeless shelters, including the Salvation Army after-school kids program, Raleigh Rescue Mission, Safe Place and many more. This charity is very near and dear to my heart. I have been a part of this since the onset. Music is healing and soothing for the soul. Many in this group have a story about how music has changed their lives. My hope is to be able to help provide others with something that can help them make a change in their lives, help them to find peace, and an outlet for the many feelings they may be going through.

When she reached out to me this week, she said in her message, “I would love for you to join our Guitarists for Good non-profit group. I will send you a link to the page. If you get responses from folks in your area that have guitars to donate, let them know to contact me. And I can make a trip down to your area to pick them up. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and I will be happy to tell you more about it. Thank you. “

To learn more you can check out their Facebook page.

My thought was, “No Thank you! What an awesome thing!” So for those that wish to learn more or help out with a donation, you can email Anders @

Blackbeard’s Triple Play

IMG_E8010[1].JPG

Blackbeard’s Triple Play Restaurant, 415 S Front St, offers live music each Friday and Saturday night on the deck. Tonight, fans of southern rock are in for a treat when The Potter’s Hill Band comes calling tomorrow 7:30-11:30 pm. This band is the result of two bands teaming up on tour this past year and the players playing around.

It all came about after The Adam Hill Band picked up a few dates with the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute act, Second Helping. From there Chris McCallister, founder, and guitarist for SH and leader of the self-named Adam Hill Band got to jamming, Jonathan Riggs got to singing, his wife Laura McCallister and her dear friend Fleeta Griffith started backing him up and Joey Gillette of SH got going on the back beat. Adding to that, the bass man from Side Track, Rick Ellis. They rehearsed a time or two in the town where they take their name and rocked their first gig a few weeks ago. If you missed their debut, come on out and hear their second gig. Tonight 7:30 pm! Come early for something to eat and rock the night away under the tent!

For more info please reach out and call the club at 252-635-0322.

The Backstreet Pub, 124 Middle Ln, Beaufort, NC, welcomes the soothing blues sounds of The Beaufort Blues Project. In case you missed yesterday’s blog, I mentioned that this band has been offering their service to help so many since Florence. I know that is true of all or most of us around here, but tonight we can give back to them. Tonight is a real gig for the band and it is my hope that music lovers from all around will come out and show their tip jar some love so they know how much they are appreciated.

Music makers are amazing, which is why I work so hard supporting them. They show up for any cause they donate time and they are always the first people to rise up. I know, because I’ve see it. I love our local music makers.
