Mojo Collins Brings the Blues to New Village Brewery and Taproom
The ever so talented Mojo Collins made his way to Oriental a couple of weeks ago, to share his blues with fans and friends. He performed in the backyard garden at New Village Brewery and Taproom, located on Broad St in Oriental. This blues artist has a long history of sharing songs that date back to the mid-’60s. He has written over 300 songs, and shares stories and songs with his audience. Here is a song I captured at his show in Oriental.
You can find Mojo Collins on Facebook to read his extensive and interesting story. His story has as much character as his music and that can’t be by mistake. Tonight the singer and stringer will be celebrating Manteo First Friday.
First Friday is a fun-filled, family-oriented street festival held the first Friday of each month, April through November from 6 pm to 8 pm in Historic Downtown Manteo along the Waterfront. The sidewalks pulse with live music, magic, artisans and much more.
Below is the 2019 Music Lineup for the courthouse steps at Dare County Arts Council:
August 2: Mojo Collins
September 6: Seagrass
October 4: Gorillas and the Miss
November 1: The Wilder Brothers
December 6: Manteo Christmas Show
Each First Friday, Dare County Arts Council also has a new art exhibition opening reception which is free and open to the public.
Many shops and restaurants do individual celebrations inside their establishments, offering their own live music, unique merchandise, special sales and light refreshments.
First Friday is a great time to explore downtown Manteo. See you there!
First Friday on Roanoke Island is a monthly event sponsored by the Town of Manteo. First Friday 2019 is also sponsored by Kitty Hawk Kites, Manteo Rotary Club, Holiday House Weddings and Events – Florals, lighting and decor., Atlantic Elevators, Outer Banks Ace Hardware, White Doe Inn, and the North Carolina Arts Council.
This project is supported by the NC Arts Council, a division of the department of natural and cultural resources.

Mommicked Comes to Town and Rocks Blackbeards
We got to rock with a new band on Saturday night when the owner of Blackbeard’s Triple Play Dale Overbee brought Mommicked, a fun rock and pop band from the Crystal Coast. This band has been rocking the scene for 8 years, but this was the first time I had the pleasure of hearing them. I have to admit they are a lot of fun and the band offers several talented players. For venues looking for a fun and solid band choice be sure to consider Mommicked.
Making the music for this band are Josh Honaker offering the lead on vocals and plays guitar.
Craig Paylor plays lead and acoustic guitar, keys and offers background vocals. Harvey Avery on bass and background vocals, Ray Waggoner behind the kit on drums and Jason Ketchum guitar, and helping make them sound good is sound tech Vic Banks.

The next time the band returns to New Bern they will be rocking Blackbeard’s Triple Play on Sunday, September 1, 2019 for an End of Summer Bash. Mark your calendars now.
