To welcome in the weekend I headed to the Crystal Coast last evening to see what bands were playing at the beach. With music season in full swing and may new venues to check out, it is always fun to head to our coast for fun music, good food, and great vibes. Last night we drove through three towns and stopped by five-night spots where we grooved to five acts. Before the night ended, I tipped music makers, danced, shot video and took many pictures of the sights I enjoyed
My first stop brought us to Idle Hour Biergarten located on the circle at Atlantic Beach, NC where we had the pleasure of enjoying music courtesy of the Mac & Juice Trio. It is a rarity to see the band in trio formation. They have only jammed that way a couple of time, last night being the second! They usually stay busy as an acoustic duo featuring the two strings, Mac Nelson and Brian Juice Raynor. Last night they extended the groove one with bass man Jason Moore holding the beats. I have also had the pleasure of catching them in a full quartet formation which is always fun.
In fact, the band will be teaming up with their drummer Brian Mason for the rest of the weekend. You can catch them live tonight at Floyd’s 1921 Catering and Restaurant, 400 Bridges St., Morehead City, NC. Showtime is 7-10 pm. Come hungry and dance the night away! Tomorrow night the quartet head over the bridge to jam at Back Street Pub, 124 Middle Ln., Beaufort, NC. Come down early to get your groove on for Sunday Funday. Music and fun start at 5 pm.
Steel Shot was jamming at Crystal Coast Brewing Company 219 West Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach, NC last night when I dropped in to check out this new venue on the map. The company has two new locations along the Crystal Coast. They recently opened their Atlantic Beach location which offers a huge bar, a back room with pool tables, a welcoming entry with a living room space to welcome anyone interested in setting up a meeting with friends or family. It is a nice location and one in support of live music.
Tomorrow you can catch a band I recently spoke about here, The Remedy will be rocking from 2 -5 pm tomorrow afternoon for the Sunday Funday portion of the weekend. If you love that rockin blues and classic rock grooves, be sure to catch this band soon.
It’s always nice, even after three years of doing this, to run into a band whose name is familiar but whose sound is new to your ears. Last night I finally got to hear the music of Bobby Webb and Co after several years of mentioning him and his band playing right here.
We found the trio offering up the contemporary country sounds while on stage at Cru Bar and Wine Store/ Beaufort Coffee Shop, 120 Turner St., Beaufort, NC. Music is offered several nights a week including each Friday and Saturday. Since covering the scene I have watched this venue transform and become a very welcome venue for players, performers, and poets alike. Lst night it was a great pleasure to hear a familiar name for the first time. The trio was much fun. They offer the crowd the familiar country sounds that keep toes tapping and hips swaying. To keep up to date with this band please visit them on Facebook:
Tonight Cru Bar and Wine Store/Beaufort Coffee Shop will welcome the sounds of 4EverAll who will bring the band to play a fun night of music that includes classic sounding original grooves and memorable songs for days gone by that will make you dance. Music plays from 8-11 pm
Sometime after a while, I wandered across the road to have a listen to the songs of Irish Robinson who was jamming his truths and offering his grooves to the folks that gathered at Royal James Cafe 117 Turner St., Beaufort, NC. The stringer and singer recently left his band Common Interests and is looking forward to working as a solo act this music season. You can catch him when he returns to Beaufort on Monday, June 11 when he offers up the music at Queen Anne’s Revenge, 510 S Front St., Beaufort, NC. He will groove you from 6-9 pm
I capped off my night of music at the Crystal Coast by checking out Y Knott, a trio of rockers from the region that were offering all of the music familiar to the crowd that gathered on the deck and along the waterfront in front of the Dock House, 500 Front St., Beaufort, NC. Tonight the band will make their return and rock on the deck from 9 pm until 1 am.
I ended the work week on a particularly high note after a brief and productive meeting with Josie Mullens, publisher of the Newport Voice. This is a free publication that is available online as well as being mailed in bulk to the largest zip code in the quaint community.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect when a mutual friend of ours had the idea that we should meet. Always trusting the suggestions of trusted friends, I am grateful that we sat down at BeBop’s Cafe to discuss what we were both busy doing with our life.
Mullens has owned and operated a print shop and offered a community publication in years past, but with changing times, the slowing of the economy, a decade ago and other factors, it was not until recently that she revived the community’s voice with the new and revived Newport Voice.
Since making each other’s acquaintance on Facebook, I have been intrigued with Mullens work. As it would turn out, she was admiring my work as well, and my ability to cover a lot of ground. It is during our meeting I found myself intrigued by Mullens published past and her bright plans for the future. Before the meeting ended Mullens asked if I would be interested in offering an entertainment piece for the monthly publication.
I am excited to report I went right to work thinking of content for this new venture. After publishing last night’s blog I headed to the Crystal Coast to bring new content to life not just for us here but for a new audience I am looking forward to meeting! I am hoping we can get many venues on board in supporting my efforts for covering the Crystal Coast and beyond. Together we can offer outstanding ad packages to help you promote your music events. It is going to be a fun time riding that wave with you.
Given that good news for music venues and music makers offering sounds around the Carteret County area, here now is your invitation to send me your schedules and invite me out from time to time. I love seeing new places and hearing new bands. I like learning the history of the people who make the music as well as those that build the house for it to play.
Copy deadline for each new issue is the 15th of the month. If there is news to know, please be sure to share it before that for consideration for print. All considerations and invitations should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
My first article for the community paper will run next month and at press time today, I am still not sure of the name. Stay tuned and check out the great work of this little community newspaper today by following this link:
